Selous Game Reserve 4 Days/3 Nights Tanzania Safari Detailed Itinerary

Four days safari to Selous Game Reserve, the reserve that boasts one of the world's largest populations of elephant, and some of the last remaining Black Rhino. One of the highlights while in Selous Game Reserve is a boat cruise up the mighty Rufiji River to Steiglers Gorge.

 

View massive crocodiles sunning themselves on the sand banks and pod after pod of Hippo wallowing in the shallow water. During the dry season a lot of the wildlife come to drink from the fast flowing Rufiji River as water becomes non-existent in the surrounding bush, this makes for exceptional game viewing. Leopard sightings are also not uncommon near Steiglers Gorge.

 

Selous is the base for some of Tanzania’s best safari places for an adventure in search of lion, elephant or wild dog, or a safari bush walk.

Day 1

Dar-es-Salaam – Selous Game Reserve
Morning drive to Selous arriving Rufiji River Camp in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive in the reserve. The lodges in this game reserve are so far apart, they each have their own routes, so who knows you may find the sighting of a lifetime and be able to enjoy it all by yourselves – one of the huge advantages over the far more crowded reserves.

Day 2

Selous Game Reserve
Full day game drives with picnic lunches. Alternatively you may decide to take a walking safari which is possible and offers a totally different experience to game drives, to approach animals on foot is a completely different experience than doing it in a vehicle. It is also a chance to get close and personal with some of the finer details of the African bush, things like birds, trees and plants. You can also extend your walking safari into a multi day walking safari and walk from point to point, camping along the way – the ultimate in a Safari adventure. Return to Rufiji River Camp.

Day 3

Selous Game Reserve
Early morning pre-breakfast walking safari returning to camp for late breakfast. The rest of the morning is at leisure. Afternoon boat safari on the mighty Rufiji River. Boating Safaris along one of the rivers of the Selous is a great way to see hippo and crocodile, but also a common to see elephant, waterbuck and buffalo along the river banks.

Day 4

Selous Game Reserve – Dar es Salaam
Another morning game drive at the reserve, departing after an early lunch by road back to Dar es Salaam.
