Only 200 km West of Dar es Salaam lies
the mighty Selous Game Reserve— the largest
National Park in Africa. Four times the size of Serengeti
- covering more than 5% of Tanzania's total area and
larger than Switzerland. Fed by the mighty Rufiji
River, the largest river in East Africa which drains
most of South Western Tanzania’s water, this
reserve is home to over 1,000,000 large animals and
is home to over half of Tanzania’s elephant
population.
Selous has over 2,100
species of plants, 350 species of birds, 60,000 elephant,
108,000 buffalos and an estimated 1,300 of the worlds’
approximately 4,000 remaining rare wild dogs giving
guests an opportunity to glimpse all of these exotic
animals in true unspoilt wilderness. On arrival late

Explore
Selous National Park
After
breakfast choice of several activities, Walking Safari,
Boat Safari or Game drive.
There are large populations of elephant in the park.
Approximately 70 % (60 000) of Tanzania's elephants
are found in this reserve. Other well known animals
include the hippo (40 000 inhabit the river systems),
depleted numbers of the black rhino, large herds of
buffalo (over 160 000), the area's famous wild dogs
and 5 000 lion patrol the Reserve.
Also
found here are Nyasaland gnu, brindled gnu, hartebeest,
Greater Kudu, sable antelope, eland, reedbuck, bushbuck,
waterbuck, warthog, zebras, giraffe, wildebeest, leopard
and cheetah are rare. There are over 350 species of
birds including African snipe, Bateleur eagle, Crested
lark, Green-headed oriole, Knob-billed duck, herons,
kingfishers, geese and Southern Ground hornbill. Reptiles
such as crocodiles and various snakes and lizards
are also found.
