Detailed itinerary

Marvel at nature's contrasts and superlatives as you sojourn across Southern Africa on this select adventure. Travel from terrains as extreme as the arid Namib Desert and the desolate Skeleton Coast to the wetlands of the Okavango Delta, while you witness towering sand dunes, thundering waterfalls and diverse wildlife. Your equally fascinating accommodations include former castles, tented camps and safari cottages.

Day 1

Departure
Your wildlife adventure lies just ahead as you board your international flight bound for Africa.

Day 2

Arrival Windhoek, the capital of Namibia
Spend your first night in a former castle, perched on the hills overlooking the city. Heinitzburg pays wonderful attention to detail, everything from the four-poster beds to the handmade wooden furniture is perfect. All rooms feature the most magnificent view of Windhoek and the surrounding Khomas Hochland mountains.

Meal Plan {Breakfast}

Day 3 4

Sossusvlei (Clay pan in the central Namib Desert)
Begin your six night wing safari with two nights in Sossusvlei, site of the world's tallest sand dunes. Excursions in specially-fitted 4 x 4 vehicles allow access to the dunes and dry river beds in search of elusive oryx, gemsbok and ostrich. Sossusvlei is surely one of the most spectacular sights in Namibia. Located in the Namib Naukluft park, the largest conservation area in Africa, and fourth largest in the world - the sand dunes at Sossusvlei are just one excellent reason to visit Namibia.

The best time to view Sossusvlei is close to sunrise and sunset; the colors are strong and constantly changing, allowing for wonderful photographic opportunities. The midday heat is intense and best spent in the shade while sunset also offers excellent photo opportunities at Sossusvlei.

Day 5 6

Damaraland

Fly to Swakopmund for a boat trip among the seals, dolphins, whales and penguins. Continue winging north over the remote Skeleton Coast to Damaraland, an area of stark plains, ancient valleys and soaring peaks. Enjoy two days home of the legendary desert elephants - adapted to life in a fragile environment with few resources - as well as black rhino and good birding. Thankfully there is great desert accommodation, which means you don't have to rough it in Damaraland in the slightest of rare desert elephant, lion, cheetah and black rhino.

Etosha Game park covers an area of 22 270 square km, it is home to 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and, surprisingly, one species of fish.
