Kinondo Kwetu Retreat: Kinondo Kwetu Hotel is situated on the south coast of Kenya, 1 ½ hours ride south from Mombasa, on the beach of the Indian Ocean. With room for no more than 38 guests, you will always find your own private spot at Kinondo Kwetu, which makes it a very special hideaway for honeymooners.

Kinondo Kwetu Hotel is the perfect place to gather family or friends for a private celebration or wedding. With two kitchens in separate buildings, the place can easily be divided into two, making it possible for companies of 10-20 or 30-40 to stay for themselves. It is also the ideal spot for corporate retreats.

On the grounds, you find two pools, one of them with a depth that allows training for PADI diving certificate, three horses, and, from February 2008, a tennis court. Kinondo Kwetu’s dhow and outriggers are out on the water, waiting to take you sailing.

Kinondo Kwetu and its operation are working in harmony with the village Kinondo and its inhabitants, many of which are working at the hotel. In order to facilitate the life of the villagers we have founded Kinondo Kwetu Foundation. Kinondo Kwetu Hotel nearest International Airport is Moi Mombasa, 1 ½ hours away. The nearest airstrip is Ukunda only 10 minutes away.

Kinondo Kwetu Hotel Accommodation

Kinondo Kwetu Hotel rooms and cottages have their own personalized character, as it is furnished and decorated with Swahili culture handicraft and antiquities. All double rooms are equipped with king size beds and all rooms with fans and mosquito nets.

Kinondo Kwetu accommodation include Mamataa Villa (6 suites), Four cottages, a beach house and Mamatina Villa. The maximum occupancy is 38 guests in a large area. Children are welcome and cots and extra beds are available on request.

There are plenty of beautiful spots where you can retire to spend time with yourself or in company, in the library or in one of the living rooms. Or outside, in one of the water towers, where you can watch the sun set over the mountains, on a cliff by the sea or in any of the secluded spots you find in the area.

The facilities include two swimming pools, a tennis court and water towers from which guests can enjoy spectacular sunset views. Guests seeking seclusion will like the tranquil atmosphere of the library and the living rooms.

The restaurant serves 3-course lunches and dinners using the freshest local ingredients. Kinondo Kwetu is renowned for its cuisine, which benefits from locally produced fruits and vegetables.

Three-course lunches and dinners are served al fresco, with fresh fish and seafood being natural favorites. Kinondo Kwetu is happy to make any arrangements to meet with personal diet requirements and children’s menus.

Kinondo Kwetu enjoys a perfect beach front location and has spacious rooms and grounds so retains a calm and restful atmosphere. Home to the Anderssons, a Swedish family related to famous Baron Blixen, Kinondo Kwetu sits on a private beach south of Diani, distanced by rocky cliffs and clean beaches from its neighbors.

It is classified as a 'Kaya' area (protected by the National Museum) as it is surrounded by holy forests and sacred land.

Kinondo Kwetu offers a range of water sports including diving - they have their own PADI centre, snorkeling and kite surfing. Guests can also enjoy a dhow cruise or go sailing on one of the resort's outriggers.

Other activities include horse riding and golf. Excursions can be arranged to the local village and also to Mombasa as well as to nearby islands. Shimba Hills is just a short drive away.

Diving from Kinondo is superb and all levels are catered for. The reef is so close that great dives can be enjoyed just 5 minutes from the shore! Best time for diving is September - March. Health and well being is forefront at Kinondo with massages, beauty treatments, wood fired sauna, 2 pools, tennis and an exercise area. Yoga week, using masters from around the world at held several times a year.

There is a spa offering various treatments including facials, manicure and pedicure. Kinondo has its own stables with 5 horses and experienced riders can choose to explore the local holy forests or caner along the beach, less experienced riders can practice in the riding paddocks.

And if you want to see wildlife, like elephants, giraffes, buffalos, antelopes, and other African animals in the wild, Shimba Hills National Park is only a short drive away. Or maybe golf is your thing. No problem, there is an 18-hole course only 15 minutes away, where you can rent clubs. As is also Ukunda airstrip, from which you can fly on safari to any of Kenya’s classic National Parks.
