Detailed Itinerary


 

Day 1
Arusha National Park
Hatari Lodge
Leave Arusha at 9.00 am and drive to Arusha National Park. At around 11.00 am you reach the lodge, a converted farmhouse where Hardy Kreuger lived and “Hatari” was filmed. While you settle for your superb lunch, you have time to plan your activities for the afternoon. You can opt for game drives or a guided game walk or visit a Maasai Village to get some insight into the traditional lifestyle of this pastoralist community. The evening you spent at the lodge admiring the sun disappearing behind Mt. Meru, the reflections of the snow of Kilimanjaro in the dark mirror of its surface.

Day 2
Arusha
Tarangire National Park
After breakfast you leave Hatari, heading for Tarangire National Park. This vast Park along the Tarangire River harbors more game than the Serengeti during the dry season, (June to October and January to March) Throughout the year Elands, Kudus, Impalas, Gazelles and herds of Elephants can be found. Lions are common and occasionally Leopards and Rhinos can be seen. At lunchtime, you will have reached the Tree Tops Lodge a unique establishment at the boundary of the park. In the afternoon, you explore the banks and swamps of the Tarangire River in search for wildlife.

Day 3

Tarangire National Park

Today we explore the unique Park on two extensive game runs. With a permanent water source, the park is virtually guaranteed enormous herds and excellent game viewing including cheetah, lion (some tree-climbing!), leopard and hyena and a herd of 3,500 elephants. The park is also host to a number of rare species including eland, oryx, kudu and gerenuk. Our accommodations are at Tarangire Sopa Lodge, a tranquil oasis overlooking the rolling plains.

Day 4

Tarangire National Park - Lake Manyara - Karatu Gibbs

Today you wake up early for an early morning game drive at 6.00 am before you return to the lodge for a breakfast at 8.30 am. After breakfast, you leave the Lodge with lunch boxes heading for Lake Manyara. Lake Manyara is the old Hunter's paradise with legendary tree climbing lions. These, however, one is not always guaranteed to see. On the Lakeshore, there are thousands of flamingoes and other water birds busy amongst the hippo. After a lunch break at the hot springs that feed the lake, your safari will continue up the escarpment on to Karatu, a highland where extensive large-scale farming is carried out. Dinner and overnight will be at the Gibbs farm in midst of a large coffee plantation.

Day 5

Karatu Gibbs - Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Today you will visit one of the Wonders of the World; the Ngorongoro Crater. After breakfast, you drive with packed lunch up to the crater rim before descending into the crater floor with for a game drive. Here you come across virtually all game you expect to see in East Africa. Ngorongoro is definitely nothing short of one of the natural Wonders of the World. With lunch boxes in your Safari Jeeps, you will have plenty of time to watch the animals before climbing back up the steep crater walls in 4x4 vehicles. Dinner and overnight at the Ngorongoro Gibbs Farm.

Day 6

Ngorongoro - Olduvai Gorge - Serengeti National Park
Your African Spice Safari continues after breakfast via Olduvai Gorge where some of the oldest human fossils have been found. You will enjoy your lunch box at the Naabi Gate, and then proceed with a game drive en-route to the Serena Kirawira in the western Serengeti for dinner and Overnight. Kirawira is situated on a hill offering sweeping views over the Serengeti plains. The tented camp with its Victorian and east African style of decor brings you closer to the heart and soul of the continent and echo a life in a 19th century safari camp.

Day 7

Serengeti National Park

Today you will start with an early morning 'Spice' game drive in search of the hunters before the heat of the day sends them hiding in the bushes. After a late breakfast, you continue with a full day excursion in the 'endless plains' - the Maasai meaning of the word Serengeti. If you are lucky, you may witness some hunting thrills. Serengeti is home to all the major species of wildlife with thousands of wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, impalas, gazelles, buffaloes and elephants. The kopjes a volcanic rock formation spread all over the plains are the hideouts of large lion prides. Cheetahs can easily be spotted and with some luck even leopards. In the late afternoon, you return to Kirawira for dinner and overnight.

Day 8

Serengeti National Park - Arusha Town
After breakfast transfer to Grummeti Airstrip for your return flight to Arusha. You will have a day room available if you are flight takes off from Kilimanjaro this evening. If you are proceeding by road to Nairobi, you will do so after Lunch in Arusha.
