Ngare Serian Camp Masai Mara

Ngare Serian Camp is a cozy and intimate safari camp set right on the banks of the Mara river within the private and exclusive Mara North Conservancy in the Masai Mara Ecosystem. The camp embraces 6 km of Riverfront and is dominated by the lofty Siria Escarpment rising 1000 feet above Masai Mara in Kenya.

It can only be reached on foot, over a narrow rope bridge – and in a way the crossover is symbolic: a call to step out of touch and out of time, and give yourself over to the natural charm of the place.

The Camp can be reached either by road or by air. The distance from Nairobi to Masai Mara is approximately 250 km. It takes around 5-6 hours by road while flying time takes about 45 minutes.  Scheduled flights land at Mara North airstrip, the camp’s preferred airstrip.

Ngare Serian Camp Masai Mara has 4 vast, spacious tents all set on raised hardwood decks and dotted along the riverbank with views over the Oloololo Escarpment. Each tent has Zanzibar 4 poster bed, bedside tables, a writing desk, a bathtub built on the veranda decking, and an adjoining bush bathroom with hot and cold running water, a flush toilet, and a shower.

The large open deck also has a comfy sofa and views of the river. Its boutique style and intimate nature make it perfect for families or small groups. The camp has 24-hour electricity on a combination of solar and generator.

Ngare Serian Camp has an attractive dining deck and seating area, where guests can discuss the day’s events, plan for the next day and enjoy a drink before dinner. Dinner is often served in the open air under the stars, eaten by candlelight. Guests can also converse around a campfire while gazing into the immense Kenyan skies.

The banks of the Mara river are amongst the most desirable locations for safari camps, we often find ourselves sharing our little slice of heaven with the local hippopotamus families. Ngare sits alongside the biggest hippo pool and is a prime spot for watching their antics.

They make for entertaining neighbors, huffing and honking their way through the days and nights; fighting, biting, and battling to be Lord of the Springs; providing an ideal fishing platform for the local herons; bringing their babies to see the weird humans in the big green tents; and hauling themselves out to sunbathe on the rocks.

Ngare Serian Camp activities include; bird watching, day and night game drives, guided bush walks, fishing, Maasai village visits, fly camping, and hot air balloon safaris.
