Mara West Camp

Mara West Camp is a luxury safari camp nestled against a wooded thicket and surrounded by savannah on the Oloololo Escarpment overlooking the stunning views of the park below and borders the remote and beautiful western edge of Masai Mara National Reserve.

Guests enter the park through the Oloololo Gate and safari throughout the Transmara side of the park.  Far from the paved roads traversed by safari vans, this part of the park is remote and less frequented by those traveling by road. Guests often fly into the nearby airstrip or travel by road in 4×4 vehicles specially outfitted for safaris.

The Camp can be reached either by road or by air. The distance from Nairobi to Masai Mara is approximately 250 km. It takes around 5-6 hours by road while flying time takes about 45 minutes. Angama Airstrip is 5 minutes game drive away from the camp.

Mara West Camp accommodation comprises 8 chalets, 20 economy bandas, 7 safari tents, and 1 honeymoon suite. The chalets are a unique combination of canvas and solid building materials.

Each Chalet is fitted with a hardwood floor, a pair of French doors with glass window panes, fully furnished with handcrafted cedar furniture, cushioned sofa sets, a writing desk, a lock cedar chest, an en-suite bathroom, and a furnished verandah overlooking Masai Mara’s vast plains

The safari tent is on an elevated wooden platform and each has 2 double beds, an en-suite brick bathroom with hot showers, and flush toilet, and a furnished verandah.

The economy bandas consist of 16 round canvas tents under grass shelters, reminiscent of the Maasai bomas commonly seen in the area.  Each tent has 2 comfortable twin beds with quality bedding. Common bathroom and shower facilities are conveniently located nearby for easy access. 

Mara West Camp has a fully equipped kitchen and professional chefs who are able to spread the table with tastefully prepared, appetizing dishes of many varieties. Guests can enjoy their meals from the Kingfisher Dining Lounge, Simba Restaurant, or on the spacious dining patio.

Activities available from Mara West Camp include; game drives, bird watching, guided nature walks, village visits, sundowners, bush breakfasts, and hot air balloon safari. There is a spa in the camp that offers massages and other spa treatments.
