Lake Baringo Lake Bogoria 2 Days 1 Night Kenya Safari is a short overnight trip to the famous Lake Baringo and Lake Bogoria both located within the floor of the Great Rift Valley.

Lake Baringo is a 4-hour drive from Nairobi while Lake Bogoria is only 25 km south of Lake Baringo.

The beauty of Lake Baringo is legendary, with its spectacular sunsets, a dazzling array of bird life, and the Njemps fishermen continuing a lifestyle little changed for over 200 years.

For the active, there’s canoeing, jogging or walking along the lakeside to view the prolific bird life.

You can also take advantage of boat rides to explore the lake and view the resident hippo, crocodile, and giant monitor lizards, as well as over 450 species of birds:

You can feed and photograph the fish eagles, explore this fascinating lake and visit Baringo’s hot springs.

Our tour also visits the neighbouring Lake Bogoria, with its vast numbers of flamingos and the possibility of seeing rarer animals including the Greater Kudu.

Nearby is the Lake Bogoria Reserve is unique because of its herd of the rare Greater Kudu. There are also buffaloes, zebras, impalas, dik-diks and many small mammals.

Bogoria is also an area of significant ornithological interest with 135 species of birds recorded.

Lake Baringo Activities

Boat rides Excursions to the Geysers and Hot Springs: The local tour guides educate you about the beautiful landscape. The boat rides also take you to the seven islands on the lake, which are inhabited by the Njemps.

Fish Eagles Feeding: The lake also boasts fish eagles that the local guides feed. It’s always a spectacle watching them feed. The speed and precision with which they picked fish are breathtaking.

Bird watching: Apart from the fish eagles, the region boasts 450 species of birds. The resident guide leads bird walks around the camp and the lake shore in the cool of the early morning and evening.

Cattle Crossing: It is fascinating to see the island’s cattle swim for about three hours across the lake to the cattle market in Marigat.

Lake Baringo Club Hotel Hot Spring Tour: There are two hot springs in the area. A visit to the hot springs on a close-by island takes two hours with plenty of birds, crocodiles and hippos watching en route.

Another colourful sight en route is one of Njemps fishermen off-loading nets full of tilapia, catfish, mudfish and bass while the village women and children sort them into sizes.


Lake Bogoria Activities

Lake Bogoria National Reserve Game Drive lies just south of Lake Baringo. Birds are plentiful and, at times, when the waters of Lake Nakuru are low, thousands of flamingos make this their home.

On the north-eastern shore the elusive Greater Kudu,  buffaloes, zebras, impalas, dik-diks and many small mammals. Bogoria is also an area of significant ornithological interest with 135 species of birds recorded.

Safari Itinerary in Detail

Day 1: Nairobi – Drive to Lake Baringo

0700 Hours: Depart Nairobi in the morning on our Lake Baringo Lake Bogoria 2 Days 1 Night Kenya Safari for Lake Baringo via Nakuru with a stopover at the viewpoint of the Great Rift Valley.

1200 Hours: Upon arrival in Lake Baringo, check in at your hotel/ Lodge for lunch. After lunch relax at the hotel, swim etc.

1600 Hours: Afternoon boat trips are available to view the many birds that inhabit this lake. Cruise around the Island taking in the hot springs and a visit to a Njemps Fishing Village.

1830 Hours: Return to the camp/ lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Baringo – Drive to Lake Bogoria – Proceed to Nairobi

0800 Hours: Leave Baringo after breakfast for Lake Bogoria National Park.  Lake Bogoria is a salty lake within the floor of the Great Rift Valley famous for its natural hot springs and geysers.

It has thousands of flamingos harbouring the lake with animals such as zebras, gazelles, and antelopes. Explore the hot springs on foot and view Flamingos in their thousands.

1100 Hours: Depart for Lake Nakuru town where you stop for lunch.

1400 Hours: Proceed by road to Nairobi.
