It is primarily known for acting as a crucial migratory corridor between Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks and for housing the iconic, stilted Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge, which provides exceptional up-close wildlife viewing.
6-Day Safari Tsavo West, Amboseli, and Taita Wildlife Sanctuary Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park
0700 Hours: Depart Nairobi on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, driving past expansive savannah plains and local Maasai homesteads
Mid-Morning: Arrive at Amboseli. Check into your accommodation (such as Tawi Lodge or Amboseli Serena) and enjoy a welcome lunch.
1600 Hours – 1830 Hours: Afternoon game drive. Look out for the park’s famous large elephant herds against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro
Day 2: Full Day in Amboseli
0630 Hours – 0900 Hours: Early morning game drive, when the views of Mt. Kilimanjaro are clearest. Return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast
Mid-Day: Relax by the pool or take an optional cultural visit to a local Maasai village
1530 Hours – 1830 Hours: Late afternoon game drive to explore the observation hill area and swamps where hippos and water birds gather
Day 3: Amboseli to Tsavo West National Park
Drive Time: 3–4 hours (approx. 160 km)
0800 Hours: After breakfast, enjoy an en-route game drive as you exit Amboseli. Drive across the arid landscape towards Tsavo West
1230 Hours: Arrive at Tsavo West (e.g., Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge). Check in, relax, and have lunch
1600 Hours – 1830 Hours: Head out for an evening game drive to spot lions, leopards, and other plains game
Day 4: Tsavo West to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary
Drive Time: 2–3 hours (approx. 110 km)
0630 Hours – 0830 Hours: Early morning game drive and a visit to Mzima Springs to view hippos and crocodiles through crystalline underwater viewing tanks. Have breakfast at the lodge
1030 Hours: Check out and drive via the Mwakitau gate into Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary
1300 Hours: Arrive at Taita Hills (such as Salt Lick Safari Lodge) for lunch
1600 Hours – 1800 Hours: Afternoon game drive in the sanctuary. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight, taking advantage of the lodge’s floodlit waterholes for night viewing
Day 5: Full Day in Taita Hills / Optional Tsavo East Extension
0630 Hours – 0830 Hours: Morning game drive across Taita Hills
1200 Hours: Lunch at the lodge. (Note: Some itineraries use Day 5 to drive further into Tsavo East National Park for the day)
1600 Hours – 1800 Hours: Final afternoon game drive or guided nature walk
Day 6: Taita Hills to Nairobi or Mombasa

The Taita Hills Wildlife Conservancy is a privately owned sanctuary located just next to Tsavo West National Park and offers breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro, the Pare and Uluguru Mountains, and the Taita Hills, with a seasonal river dividing the sanctuary into valleys and lowland plains.
Beginning from Nairobi, the tour could end in Mombasa or return to Nairobi. Starting from Nairobi, your adventure in the bush begins with the spectacular Amboseli National Park.
Amboseli is famous for close encounters with big herds of elephants. The game park is a photographer’s paradise, combining close-range wildlife sightings with scenic landscapes that include the towering Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain.
After 2 nights in Amboseli, we proceed by road to Tsavo West National Park. Tsavo East and Tsavo West together cover some 13747km², making this one of the biggest game reserves on earth.
Famous for the lions of Tsavo, this reserve is also home to the rest of the Big Five of Africa – buffalo, leopards, rhinos, and elephants. Other inhabitants include a variety of antelopes, giraffes, hyenas, cheetahs, and hippos.
We spend 2 days on morning and afternoon game drives in search of Africa’s Big Five and the plethora of other wildlife inhabiting this Kenyan game reserve.
Our next stop is the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, spectacularly located at the foot of the Taita Hills, adjacent to Tsavo National Park, one of the world’s largest game reserves.
The sanctuary hosts diverse species of mammals that include Elephants, lions, buffalo, giraffes, elands, oryx, lesser kudus, zebras, impalas, dik-diks, Dik Dik, cheetahs, and leopards, among 56 animals recorded in the sanctuary. Here we enjoy activities such as game drives, nature walks, and bird watching.
After a night at Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, we drive back through rural Kenya to the capital city, Nairobi. You also have the option of ending the safari in Mombasa.

Day 1: Nairobi – Drive to Amboseli National Park
Breakfast will be served at the city hotel, followed by a safari briefing on the adventures ahead. After the briefing, your safari adventure will start immediately after you board the safari vehicle, you will drive overland through Kamba land dotted with circular houses and few shopping centers as well as Maasai land to Amboseli National Park.
The Park is situated at the foot of the highest mountain in Africa, as well as the highest free-standing mountain in the world, the majestic snowcapped Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Arrive at the camp in time for lunch, followed by some leisure hours for a siesta/ swim. Depart at around 1600 Hours for an afternoon game viewing and return to the camp before sunset.
The park has large herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, giraffes, lions, and a variety of other animals and birds, all of which are attracted to this park due to its permanent supply of water from Mt. Kilimanjaro’s melting snow.
The elephant population in Amboseli is one of the few that has been able to live undisturbed, and the elephant families have been studied by world-renowned researcher Cynthia Moss.

Day 2: Explore Amboseli National Park
Early-morning game viewing in Amboseli National Park is the perfect time to catch a glimpse of and photograph the highest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro.
It is also the home of the famed Maasai people, those tall, proud nomadic warriors whose legendary prowess in battle and single-handed acts of bravery in fights with wild animals have spread across the world.
Their diet is simple, consisting mainly of meat and milk, with blood from cattle mixed in. A visit to their village reveals the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a memorable experience.
The Maasai people live in close harmony with the environment and the animals that surround them. After the morning game drive, return to the camp for breakfast and lunch. Have some rest and relaxation, sunbathing, and swimming.
Depart for your afternoon game-viewing drive in search of the large herds of elephants.

Day 3: Amboseli – Drive to Tsavo West National Park
Today we enjoy a game drive to the secluded heart of the big game country. In addition to elephants, antelopes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, and lions, nearly every vista within the park is framed by majestic Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.
Breakfast at the lodge; optional visit to a Masai Village and depart for Tsavo West National Park. Upon arrival, check-in and lunch follow. An afternoon ‘Spice’ game drive in this vast Park is planned. Tsavo West National Park covers 20,808sq km (8,034sq miles).
The Park comprises a diversity of habitats, open plains alternating with savannah bush and semi-desert scrub; acacia woodlands; rocky ridges, and outcrops.
With a permanent water source, the park is virtually guaranteed to have enormous herds and excellent game viewing, including cheetah, lion, leopard, and hyena, and a herd of over 3,500 elephants.

Wild game residing at the Sanctuary includes elephants, lions, buffalo, leopards, Oryx, lesser Kudu, and cheetahs.
Overnight at the Salt Lick Lodge, designed for lofty game viewing from its thatched roof rondavels and walkways.

Day 5: Explore Taita Hills Game Sanctuary
Spend a full day on morning and afternoon game drives. The majority of the Sanctuary is unfenced, and as a consequence, there is considerable fluctuation in wildlife numbers, particularly of elephants, buffalo, and giraffes, in response to both water availability and food availability.
Local herds of plains game, e.g., zebra, hartebeest, Grant’s gazelle, eland, etc., support resident populations of predators, including lions, leopards, and cheetahs, throughout the year.
