The tour begins at sunrise from bases such as Nanyuki, Laikipia, Lewa, or Samburu. The itinerary focuses on aerial views of the Great Rift Valley and landing for close-up encounters with birdlife and geothermal features.

1 Day Kenya Helicopter Safari Lake Baringo Lake Bogoria Itinerary

0700 Hours: Departure  – Takeoff from your lodge or airfield (Nanyuki/Laikipiaregion)
0700 – 0745 Hours: Scenic Flight  – Fly over the Laikipia plains (spotting elephant and buffalo) and descend the Rift Valley escarpment
0800 – 0930 Hours: Lake Baringo – Landing on the shores of this freshwater lake. Explore by boat to see hippos, crocodiles, and nearly 500 bird species
0930 Hours – 1130 Hours: Silale Crater/Pokot – Optional hop to the Silale Crater summit for refreshments or a cultural visit to the Pokot people.
1130 Hours – 1300 Hours: Lake Bogoria – Low-level flight over the salt lake to see massive flocks of lesser flamingos. Land to walk near boiling geysers and hot springs.
1300 Hours – 1400 Hours: Picnic Lunch  – Enjoy a private lunch under a shady acacia tree by the lake shore
1400 Hours – 1500 Hours: Return Flight –  Fly back over the escarpment via a different scenic route to your original destination

1 Day Kenya Helicopter Safari Lake Baringo Lake Bogoria excursion begins from Nanyuki, Laikipia, Lewa, or Samburu. Fly over the majestic Great Rift Valley to Lake Baringo, a habitat for nearly 500 bird species, and home to hippo and crocodile.

Just a short flight away from Baringo, we land at Lake Bogoria and walk along the shoreline to watch the flamingos feeding. Your heli-excursion begins with a morning flight over the expansive Laikipia plains, where elephant and buffalo are often seen in large numbers.

The landscape drops dramatically over the eastern wall of the Rift Valley as we approach Lake Baringo. Lake Bogoria offers an equally thrilling, but very different spectacle. A shallow alkaline lake with salinity about twice that of seawater, framed by the dramatic 700-meter Siracho Range, is most famous for its flamingos that line the white, salty shores.

With their bright feathers and upside-down bills, flamingos are among the most easily recognized water birds. Blue-green algae and crustaceans on which they feed give them their gorgeous pink color.

Migratory by nature, tens of thousands can live together in a single colony, and they often put on graceful displays of formation flying. Just a short flight away from Baringo, we land at Lake Bogoria and walk along the shoreline to watch the flamingos feeding.

This is a geologist’s paradise, with its simmering geothermal activity and thrilling geyser-like eruptions that occur now and then. After a picnic lunch under a shady acacia tree, we take off and head back over the escarpment, following a different flight path, back to our destination.

With its unique features, stunning views in all directions, and abundant birdlife, Lake Bogoria was gazetted as a National Park in 1973. The lakeshore is also home to the rare Greater Kudu, buffalo, zebra, and some smaller plains game.

During droughts, when grazing becomes scarce, the Park authorities allow pastoralists to graze along the shores with their goats and cows.
