Tarangire National Park 1 Day Safari offers a real African Safari adventure from Arusha to a lovely quiet park in Northern Tanzania called Tarangire National Park.

The Park lies 118 kilometers (75 miles) southwest of Arusha, along the Great North Road highway, and is very popular for day trips from the town. A day Trip to Tarangire National park will leave you breathless, as the park offers spectacular photographs of huge elephant herds with the back drop of baobab trees.

Tarangire National park is home to more than 5000 elephants! Tarangire (pronounced as Taa-raa-nghee-reh) National Park offers a wide variety of wildlife in its area of 2,600 Square Kilometers.

Tarangire is the sixth largest park in Tanzania and has the highest number of elephants in the whole of the northern Tanzania parks, exceeding Lake Manyara and Serengeti.

There have also been a 550 bird species recorded in the Tarangire National Park, making a sure pleasure for any bird lover. Tarangire National Park displays a diverse number of wildlife namely: elephant, lesser and great kudu, African buffalo, cheetah, fringe-eared Oryx, leopard, lion and Masai giraffe.

Other animals Include: spotted hyena, common zebra, white-bearded wildebeest, warthog, eland, olive baboon, bat-eared fox, impala, common waterbuck, bushbuck, coke’s hartebeest, gerenuk, and bohor reedbuck.

Tarangire National Park 1 Day Safari : Tarangire National Park covers an undulating area of 2,600km2, between the plains of the Maasai Steppe to the south-east, and the lakes of the Great Rift Valley to the north and west.

The northern part of Tarangire is dominated by the perennial Tarangire River, which flows through increasingly incised ravines until it leaves the north-western corner of the park to flow into Lake Burungi. In the south are a series of vast ‘swamps’ which dry into verdant plains during the dry season.

Particularly large numbers of elephant herds congregate here, as do many wildebeest and zebra. There are also substantial populations of impala, giraffe, eland and buffalo.

Thompson’s gazelle, Coke’s hartebeest, bohor reedbuck and both greater and lesser kudu are found here. The localized and unusual gerenuk and fringe-eared oryx also occur here, though in our experience they are seen exceedingly rarely. There are still thought to be a few black rhino in the park.

With a range of environments and good game, Tarangire’s birdlife is also varied – and over 500 species have been recorded here, including ashy starlings and large flocks of beautiful yellow-collared lovebirds, both of which are endemic to Tanzania.

Tarangire National Park Tanzania Highlights | What to Do and See

Day Game Drives: Large populations of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, giraffe, eland, impala and warthog all go in search of water. Lion and hyena follow accordingly. Perhaps most impressive are the large herds of elephant that congregate along the riverbanks – it is sometimes possible to see over 500 in a day.

Bird Watching: There is plenty of colorful birdlife. Yellow-billed and saddle-billed storks are often found in the river and orange-bellied parrots and red-and-yellow barbets in the acacia woodland.

Night Game Drives: There’s also the opportunity to see some of Tanzania’s famous ‘nightlife’, with unforgettable night drives permitted within Tarangire.

Walking Safari: The privilege of walking in these natural areas gives you an exhilarating feeling of adventure. Although you’ll usually get close to large mammals such as elephant, giraffe, buffalo or even lion, walking safaris are very safe.

Experienced guides and an armed National Park ranger will accompany you on every walk. Walking safaris can take an hour or a whole morning or afternoon.
