Kampala Day Tour - Ziwa Rhino Wildlife Ranch Trip
Kampala Day Tour Ziwa Rhino Wildlife Ranch Trip is an exciting day safari to see White Rhinos in their natural habitat at the Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch located in Nakasongola district – the proud home of the only wild rhinos in Uganda.
Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch is conveniently located 176 kilometers (100 miles) north of Kampala on the Gulu highway toward Murchison Falls. Ziwa is the only place where you can see rhinos in the wild. Presently, the sanctuary is home to fifteen (15) southern white rhinos.
The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is run by the Uganda Rhino Fund and Uganda Wildlife Authority. The sanctuary is home to rhinos, approximately 20 other wildlife species, and 300 bird species. Uganda was home to thousands of rhinos some years ago, and the main aim of establishing this Sanctuary was to restore the rhinoceros population in Uganda (Black and White).
There are five species of rhino in the world – Two in Africa, and three in Asia, all endangered, and the success of Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary will play a key role in the eventual reintroduction of rhinos back into the wild in Uganda’s National Parks.
It is the only place in Uganda where you can see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. When rhinos reach maturity, they are transferred to different national parks. Rhinos are slow breeders, giving birth to one calf every two to four years. These rhinos are the only wild rhinos in Uganda.
The sanctuary covers 70 square kilometers and is enclosed by electric fencing to protect the rhinos from potential threats.
