Seasons
Sirikoi
Tented Camp
is closed throughout November for the rains. Lewa Downs
has warm days and cool nights, with daytime temperatures
between 24-28°C. It cools down considerably at night
and we recommend bringing a warm jumper or wrap for
early mornings and evenings.
Sirikoi
Lodge
Helicopter
& Plane Excursions
Sirikoi
Tented Camp
is located in one of the most beautiful parts of East
Africa, on Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, and now you can
use Sirikoi Tented Camp
as a base from which to explore remote wilderness areas
by air or using quad bikes and buggies.
Below
are details of several unique excursions that Sirikoi
Tented Camp
now offers, which will truly enrich your safari experience.
Mount
Kenya National Park
This early morning helicopter excursion takes you over
the peaks of Mt. Kenya, the second highest mountain
in Africa. Some guests choose to do a scenic flight
& return to camp for breakfast. Others enjoy stopping
for a picnic breakfast on the shores of a remote alpine
lake with extraordinary montane scenery, with a chance
to fish for rainbow trout.
Quad
Biking
Quad biking safaris offer a new opportunity
to explore the Northern Frontier District (NFD); a semi-arid
landscape of bush and wide sandy riverbeds lined with
acacia and doum palms. The land is seasonally used by
elephants but has a resident population of wildlife.
Quad biking can be done as a day trip to Lepurua or
a longer safari option in the NFD.
Visit
to the Pokot
This half day excursion takes you by
helicopter or charter plane to a remote part of the
Rift Valley for a unique cultural encounter with the
Pokot tribal community, rarely visited by outsiders.
The Pokot in this area are nomadic pastoralists, independent
by nature and highly dependent on their livestock for
survival.
Magado
Crater
This helicopter excursion takes you on a north-east
flight over Shaba National Reserve to the extraordinary
Magado Crater, where pools of saline water shine with
all the colours of the rainbow, and local cave-dwelling
miners eke a living collecting salt to sell to pastoral
people in remote rural markets. Guests can explore the
area and meet the miners.
Visit
to the Rendile
For this half day excursion you will
fly by helicopter or private charter over the Kaisut
& Chalbi deserts to Kargi, home of the Rendile people,
for a rare opportunity to witness this very traditional
group of Cushite people watering their camels and other
livestock at a desert oasis. On occasions there can
be up to 2,000 camels drinking at any one time.
David
Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
The inspirational orphaned elephant rehabilitation
project of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is located
in Tsavo National Park, eastern Kenya. The project takes
in young elephants that have been orphaned or abandoned,
often as a result of poaching or other human-wildlife
conflict. This excursion is by plane or helicopter to
Tsavo.
