Sarara Star Camp sits on the edge of an escarpment in the heart of the Namunyak conservancy in Samburu East Distrct far north of Kenya. To get there you take scheduled flights from Nairobi Wilson airport to Nanyuki, Lewa Downs and Kalama followed by a short private charter flight or road transfer to Sarara Star Camp.

The secluded camp consists of only 6 luxurious double tents spread out along the hillside with open air bathrooms to make the most of the exceptional vistas and fully benefit from the hot climate.

Sarara Star Camp can accommodate up to 12 pax in dome tents, with safari showers and loos. The team of resident chefs lovingly create delicious, home-cooked meals which can be enjoyed in the bush or in the comfort of the camp’s surroundings. On arrival at the Star Camp guests are greeted by stunning views over North Kenya which can be enjoyed from a natural rock pool, fed by a clear mountain spring.

Sarara Star Camp has been deliberately kept small with only six rooms so as to not compromise on the special feeling of isolation. The camp is only accessible by foot or helicopter. All baggage and supplies are brought in by Camel, even the ice, which is plentiful arrives by dromedary.

After dinner around the camp fire at Sarara Star Camp, guests spend the night under the stars from the comfort of their own mosquito net tents. The complete exclusivity of the Star Camp means that guests can fully immerse themselves in the absolute peace and serenity of this remarkable wilderness.

Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy & Sarara Star Camp

Namunyak Conservancy is located far north of Kenya, an area of 850,000 acres of pristine wilderness in the Mathews Range. The savannah plains and lush mountain slopes are home to elephant, leopard, reticulated giraffe, wild dog and kudu in ever increasing numbers.

This remote and dramatic landscape is also home to the local Samburu people whose age-old traditions, including the famed ‘singing wells’ are as much a part of the fabric of this land as the wildlife.

Sarara Star Camp is located in Mathews Mountains - a sky island surrounded by the semi arid desert of Northern Kenya. As a result, many species of mammal, reptile and plant have been subject to speciation meaning they have over thousands of years evolved differently to their counterparts living in relatively close proximity.

This makes the Mathews and natural wonder and walking these mountains can be an unequivocally rewarding experience to the Nature lovers and adventurers alike. With this in mind, Sarara star camp was created to offer access to this great wilderness.

The camp sits on a vast granite rock face at 5,500ft under the 8500ft Warges peak of the Mathews. With spectacular sweeping views, a surrounding natural amphitheater of tropical rainforest and abundant bird and mammal species the star camp can be classified as paradise found.

Sarara Star Camp is simple but as with all of our accommodation it maintains the very highest standards of necessary luxury. A cool blend of African inspired furniture and furnishings mixed with comfortable Bedouin rugs and cushions give the camp a novel feel.

A dedicated team of Samburu host’s and staff make wonderful company and will not only cater for your every need but also guide you through the surrounding forests. The Mess tent is located above a natural rock pool fed with water from the mountain spring above- a perfect way see out the heat of the day wallowing with a beer in hand.
