Itinerary
Guests
arrive at the farm in the morning and are welcomed with
traditional snacks and tea by the host Kagondu and his
wife Rosemary.
After the snack guests move to the coffee farm where
Kagondu will take them through how it is grown, picked,
and graded. Later on they will see how some of it is
roasted and ground for use in the farm.
From
the coffee farm we take a village path and visit some
of Kagondu’s neighbors where we learn more about
village life. Then we end up in the tea farm where we
put on the ‘Kigara’ (picking basket) and
start picking tea.
If
we make it in time for milking, guests can try their
hand at milking one of Mboi farm’s dairy cows.
After this we head to the traditional homestead where
guests see and experience various aspects of Kikuyu
culture. From here the ladies can head to the kitchen
where Rosemary will teach them how to make some local
delicacies such as Mukimo, Chapati and Ugali while preparing
lunch together.
The men sit on three legged stools with village elders
under the Sausage tree (Muratina tree) which is used
to prepare traditional honey brewed wine. They get to
sample the brew which was only taken by old men in Kikuyu
culture as the elders tell them more about culture and
history of the Kikuyu.
After
a lunch spiced with traditional niceties, we then drive
to the community owned fish farms, and later to the
local primary school where we can stretch some muscles
and break a sweat with an exciting football or volleyball
game with the kids. Guests can then end the tour by
planting a tree, leaving a positive footprint in the
village.
