Mara Toto Camp; Toto, meaning "baby" in Swahili, is used in reference to this camp's reputable sister camp, Mara Plains. Just a few kilometers downstream from this renowned camp is Mara Toto, perfectly positioned in a small bend in the Ntiakitiak River, where thick forest meets savannah.

A balanced blend of comfort, adventure and intimacy make this camp truly desirable amongst the confounding network of camps dotted in and around this popular Kenyan Reserve.

Mara Toto is located in the heart of the magnificent Mara Reserve, and the camp’s traversing rights of both Mara North Conservancy and the Masai Mara Game Reserve give guests the flexibility to explore far and wide in search of arguably the finest wildlife sightings on earth; particularly predator viewing.

Mara Toto Camp comprises five spacious canvas tents, each carefully placed to give guests the very best views. All tents have their own en-suite bathroom too. You’ll be able to explore the Mara plains in the camp’s special 4x4s. Each vehicle has its own stocked fridge and power invertors and is driven by your qualified guide.

With open sides and panoramic views, the Mara Toto Camp vehicles have been designed with photography in mind. There are two Canon cameras wide angle lenses available at the camp too!

Delicious, healthy meals are cooked up by the staff so that guests can refuel after their day of safari. As always, any dietary requirements can be catered for with prior notice.

Mara Toto Camp

Mara Toto camp consists of four custom-designed canvas tents with gauze, open sides and canopied ceilings. Set at ground level, and shaded by the riverine forest, this camp is reminiscent of its renowned sister camp, Mara Plains, but forgoes some of the more particular luxuries, creating a casual and comfortable safari environment.

Mara Toto Camp En-suite facilities include flush loos, bucket showers and tapped hot/cold water to ensure pure fulfillment. Electricity is provided around the clock and guests can expect to enjoy fine dining and exceptional hospitality throughout their stay.

Mara Toto Camp tents are decorated with an essence of early exploration and discovery – an eclectic yet coordinated assembly of what early travelers may have carried.

Brass chandeliers, old Indian chests, and local natural materials that have been hand collected from all over Africa are used throughout the camp, simulating old Africa and the original safari.

Mara Toto Camp Game Viewing and Activities

Guests are invited to spend days out exploring the 70,000 acre private Mara North Conservancy, shared with just an handful of other small boutique camps; or to go deep into the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve to catch the river crossings or a foray around Topi Plains in search of Notch & sons.

Keeping with the finest in the industry, each Mara Toto tent is knitted with the finest Swarovski Optik binoculars for guest use, and in addition, there is a professional quality Canon camera up for rent, should guests require one for the time spent at Mara Toto.

The glade of trees surrounding the camp is prime leopard territory, and the camp is at a superior location from which to witness the great wildebeest and zebra migration - right from the comfort of the tent!

Activities on offer include extensive game drives, balloon safaris (at extra cost), local village visits and unrivalled access to superior wildlife habitats, as well as, visits to local schools and Great Plains community projects in the surrounding area.
