Day 1: Nairobi – Drive to Lewa Downs Conservancy

0800 Hours: Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive northwards to Lewa Downs Conservancy, where elephants roam alongside graceful reticulated giraffes, giant eland, all the big cats, and one of the world’s last great populations of black rhinos.

1530 Hours: After lunch at the camp, we enjoy an afternoon game drive. The conservancy is home to the Big Five, both Black Rhino & White Rhino, and Sitatunga.

The park is one of Kenya’s last remaining habitats for Grevy’s Zebra (25% of the world’s remaining population & Greater Kudu. And for bird lovers, there are 440 species of birds that have been recorded here.

There are several lodges within the Conservancy.  You also have an opportunity to enjoy a night game drive tonight.

Day 2: Full Day in Lewa Downs Conservancy

Today we spend our day in Lewa exploring the conservancy on day and night game drives. Alternatively, we can choose to do the following: go on foot with a professional tracker, jog with a Masai warrior, sit in a blind with a thermos of hot coffee and a good book, or ride on horseback.

Other activities include a tour of Lewa’s community, weaving and furniture workshops, and a tour of the organic garden that produces the lodge’s fruits and vegetables.

One can also play tennis, explore the nearby ancient archaeological site, swim in the pool, or simply relax on the terrace with a pair of binoculars, spotting the “Big Five” from your lounge chair.
