Creaky Cottage - Trout Tree Restaurant is nestled within the lower end of the famous Trout Tree farm on the western slopes of Mt Kenya, a 2-hour drive from Nairobi and 13 kilometers from Nanyuki town. The cottage’s name is derived from the creaking sound made by the surrounding podo trees.

The holiday home is well-equipped for self catering getaways and provides a secluded and tranquil setting. The cottage sleeps up to 6 guests with two double bedrooms and two single beds in an under-the eaves loft room.

The cottage was neatly designed to fit into its riverine setting with the Burguret River flowing around the three sides of the cottage. The farm’s trout ponds lie between the cottage and the famous Trout Tree Restaurant built in a large sacred Fig Tree 200 meters away.

Meals can be ordered from the restaurant for those who do not wish to cook for themselves. Arrangements for breakfast and evening meals should be made in advance though, as the Trout Tree Restaurant is only open to the public from 1100 Hours to 1600 Hours.

Creaky Cottage is so named because it is built around a huge evergreen Podo tree that towers over and shelters the house. On the rare windy day, slight movements of the tree makes a noticeable creaking sound.

Getting There: Creaky Cottage - TamTrout is just off the main Nairobi to Nanyuki Highway 13 kilometers before Nanyuki town. It's a two hour drive from the Northern outskirts of Nairobi. The turnoff to the farm is marked by a large sign for the Trout-Tree Restaurant (a skeletal wooden fish). The Nanyuki Civil Airstrip is just 3 km further along toward Nanyuki.
