4 Days/ 3 Nights Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Safari is a gorilla safari adventure taking you for gorilla trekking in Mgahinga National Park situated southwards of Uganda about 540 kilometers from Kampala (Uganda's Capital City)

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park has 76 identified mammal species, including mountain gorillas, endangered golden monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, elephants, bushbucks and buffalos. Your guide will know which areas are most frequented by each species of animal.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Birding has over 115 bird species have been recorded here, including several endemic to the Albertine Rift. Rwenzori turacos, handsome francolins, olive woodpeckers and western green tinker birds are among the species you can hope to spot in the forested hillsides.

Mgahinga National Park is a full day’s drive from Kampala to Kisoro, and a further 30 minutes to the Park entrance. Kisoro is the nearest town. While it is still warm in the sunshine, Mgahinga’s high altitude means it gets very cold. The nights are very chilly indeed – you will be glad for your lodge’s open fire in the evenings!

Day 1: Kampala – Drive to Mgahinga National Park Safari
Breakfast at your hotel then depart by road from Kampala/Entebbe and drive south west all the way to Kisoro district. Stop briefly in Masaka at the equator and later in Mbarara for lunch. Enjoy the beautiful scenery as you drive past Kigezi highlands, views of the Virunga ranges and Lakes.

Mgahinga is part of the Virunga Mountains having 3 major peaks Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabinyo. Though this is the smallest park in Uganda it is richly endowed with a great photogenic scene and various primate species mainly the mountain gorillas, golden monkeys among others.

The park has over 115 bird species including local forest Albertine species.

Day 2: Mgahinga National Park (Gorilla Tracking)
Gorillas are normally present in Mgahinga from October – May and the rest of the year in Rwanda. On a day of tracking wake up early and go in search of the mountain gorillas.

It takes about 3 or 5 hours as given the small size of the park. Spend an hour or two with these highly endangered species as you learn a few things about them. Return to your lodge.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking/ Hiking
You may go for golden monkey tracking alongside other primates or you can go hiking on any of the volcanic peaks of your choice. This requires fitness and an early start.

Go for a least stressing hike on Gahinga which also offers a chance of spotting golden monkeys and forest birds. Or you can hike Muhabura the highest peak in about nine hours. Relax and dine at your lodge.
