If you can only see one park in all of Africa, it should be Ruaha National Park in Tanzania. The combination of stunning scenery, rugged landscapes, and animal variety is unmatched.

Situated in a convergence zone between north-eastern and western Tanzania towards the eastern edge of the central African plateau, Ruaha National Park has a unique location. The nearest town is Iringa with a good airport.

Ruaha has many different vegetation types due to its location and consequently lots of different animal species. Buffalo, Grant’s gazelle, eland, Roan and Sable antelope come in unusually high numbers.

Both Greater and Lesser kudu live here, making Ruaha the only park where both these two eye-catching antelopes are resident. Lion, wild dog, striped and spotted hyena, leopard and cheetah are common. Elephant numbers have recovered from the heavy poaching of the 80s.

Sadly, Ruaha was also once known for its rhino, but these were made locally extinct by poachers. The last sighting was in 1982.

Day 1: Depart Zanzibar or Dar-es-salaam – Fly to Ruaha National Park

Depart by Coastal light aircraft from Zanzibar at 8:00 or Dar es Salaam at 8:30 to Ruaha arriving at 1000 Hours. You will be met by an African Spice Safaris Driver guide with picnic lunch. and taken to explore the wild Ruaha on an open 4x4 vehicle.

Full day game drive with a bush lunch looking for wild game.
