Fishing Lodge Aberdare National Park

Fishing Lodge Aberdare National Park is a budget accommodation located on the misty moorland of the Aberdare Hills in the southern half of the Aberdare National Park. Fishing Lodge Guest House is 180 kilometers from Nairobi (via Nyeri) depending on the entry gate into Aberdare National Park.

There are two cabins about 100 meters apart, set in the southern half of the Aberdare National Park, which covers the Aberdares Range of mountains in central Kenya. Distances from Nyeri: Treetops Gate 17 km, Ark Gate 28 km, Ruhuruini Gate 20 km, Kiandogoro Gate 30 km, Wanderis Gate 37 km. Distance from Naivasha: Mutubio Gate 50 km.

Each of the two identical lodges has three rooms, two doubles, a single, and two bathrooms. There is a small kitchen with a gas burner and a lounge with a great fireplace and a terrace with a wonderful view. The sitting room in each cabin is fitted with a log fire and doors leading to a veranda.  There is also an open-plan dining area leading off the sitting room.

The lodges are a fantastic place to spend time with a family, with good access to the different ecologies in the National Park, and close to several dramatic waterfalls.

Accommodation options in the Aberdares are very limited but this park has a lot to offer in terms of wildlife, trout fishing, and walking. After exploring this cold montane environment, you can return to a cozy wood fire and a hot meal.

The Lodge is no-frills, simple, and comfortably furnished and we include this as an option for those that want to avoid the big hotels and explore the less accessible parts of the country.

For travelers wanting this kind of flexibility, we can organize a safari that combines camps and lodges and such houses where appropriate, catered for by your own guide and cook, which allows you independence and flexibility to explore some of the areas you might not normally see on trips restricted to camps and lodges.

Set in the central moorlands of southern Aberdare the Aberdare Fishing Lodge comprises two timber cabins lying near each other. Each cabin has three bedrooms. Two bedrooms have one double and one single bed and one bedroom have a single bed.

How to get there:

By air: There is an airstrip at Mweiga Park HQ
By road: There are several gates into the Park via Nyeri (Treetops Gate is the most popular entry point), or via Naivasha, (the shortest route from Nairobi) to Mutubio Gate.
The closest gate to the fishing lodge is Kiandogoro Gate (4 km away) but you should confirm road conditions from Nyeri to this Gate at the time of booking with African Spice Safaris
