5 Days Mount Kenya Climbing Sirimon Chogoria Routes; This creative Mount Kenya climbing package combines two of the most famous routes up the mountain, Sirimon and Chogoria, producing a remarkably diverse and spectacular trek. 

Sirimon coming off the west passes through the dry side of the mountain with its giant trees and rocky terrain, and the descent onto the Chogoria path is exactly different with its lush bamboo and highland forests. 

Ascent is on the dry side of mountain which offers some of the finest walking. Climb up through forest into a wide ridge approach to the summit area. The route starts on the northwest side of the mountain near Nanyuki. 

Mount Kenya climbing In Sirimon Route and Out Chogoria is ideal during the following seasons: Jan to March and July to October. 

Access is adequate and the bunk house facilities are the best on this side of the mountain.

Day 1: Nairobi – Nanyuki
Day 2: Nanyuki to Old Moses Camp
Day 3: Old Moses – Shipton Camp
Day 4: Shipton Point – Lenana – Mintos Hut
Day 5: Mintos – Chogoria – Nairobi

Safari Itinerary in Detail

Day 1: Nairobi – Nanyuki 

0900 Hours: Departure from Nairobi is at (either from hotel or airport) to Nanyuki. The drive takes about 3 and half hours with 10 minutes stopover at the Africana Curio shop for washroom and stretching. 

We then depart and drive for another one and half hours with brief stopover at the Equator for photography and Continue to Nanyuki where you check in your hotel. 

Have lunch in the Hotel and then familiarize with the climate, you can also have a walk in this famous town; you will be able to meet other trekkers either who will be going up or some who have just ended their trekking. 

Nanyuki town is famous for its position which is at the base of Mt. Kenya, most of the trekkers prefer to spend their first night here so that they can acclimatize and prepare for the trekking the following morning. 

The whole of the afternoon is spent preparing for the hike. 

Dinner and overnight at a Hotel in Nanyuki.


Day 2: Nanyuki to Old Moses Camp 

0730 Hours: After breakfast we transfer to Sirimon gate where we spend about 20 minutes for park entry formalities and then hike to Old Moses Camp, hike through mountain forest, bamboo and rosewood up to the Old Moses Hut, gaining an elevation range of 700m in 3-4 hours. 

This takes 3 to 4 Hours hike (9 Kilometers). Old Moses is where you acclimatize as you also come across different vegetation. 

Dinner and overnight at Judmair Camp -3300 meters


Day 3: Old Moses – Shipton Camp 

After the breakfast, prepare yourself and re-arrange the bag as we ascend the Sirimon Track to Likii North Valley, in this beautiful little valley below the subsidiary peaks of Teleki and Sendeyo, two ancient parasitic vents of the main peaks. {3990 meters}. 

Climb out of the North Valley and into the Mackinder’s Valley one of the broadest valleys on the Mountain, with many giant groundsels with good views of the main peaks and a brief stopover for picnic lunch along the valley. 

After lunch we will have like 3 hours to ascend to Shipton Camp just below the main peak of Batian and Nelion this normally takes 7-8 Hours to get to the Shipton Camp. 

On arrival have a cup of hot coffee or tea as you wait for the dinner to be served. 

Dinner and overnight at Shipton Camp 4200 meters


Day 4: Shipton Point – Lenana – Mintos Hut 

0230 Hours: Wake up very early in the morning and get ready to hike to Point Lenana (4,985). On a clear day, we should be able to see Mt. Kilimanjaro to the South, Mt. Elgon to the west and the Indian Ocean to the East. 

After Point Lenana, descend to Mintos (4,250 meters) for breakfast then proceed to road Head for lunch. 

Dinner and overnight at Mintos Hut 4,250 meters


Day 5: Mintos – Chogoria – Nairobi 

After breakfast, an early walk will take us to Chogoria for lunch then back to Nairobi arriving in the afternoon having conquered Mt. Kenya.
