Arusha Cultural Day Tour - Nkoaranga Village

Arusha Cultural Day Tour Nkoaranga Village is a full-day cultural excursion to the village of Nkoaranga situated in the northern part of Tanzania highlands of Mount Meru, specifically the Arusha region. This village is 25 km east of Arusha, close to the small township called USA-RIVER. Nkoaranga village is approximately (half an hour to 45 minutes) from Kilimanjaro International Airport. Nkoaranga Village’s full-day excursion offers great insight into the history and culture of the local people who live in the small village of Nkoaranga.

This is home to a local fair-trade coffee growers’ cooperative, made up of a group of small-farm coffee growers working together to build a sustainable, naturally grown, fair-trade coffee business. Visit the coffee plantations and see the different steps of coffee growing. Learn about how coffee beans are collected, processed, roasted, ground, and carefully packed. All proceeds from coffee sales return to the local farmers for reinvestment in the project, and to build their burgeoning organic farming project – with the first organic bean harvest scheduled within the next two years.

Lunch is taken in the village before you return to Arusha. A walk through the village allows you to see the oldest Lutheran church in Mt. Meru. You will visit a primary or secondary school or a children’s orphanage. As you walk to the farm you will see small shambas (farms), where people grow bananas, maize, beans, and other vegetables and fruits.
