9 Days Kenya Samburu Aberdares Bogoria Nakuru Naivasha Mara Safari Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Drive to Samburu Game Reserve
After breakfast depart Nairobi by road to Samburu Game Reserve crossing the thorny landscape of Samburu County at the North rugged Semi desert region.

Samburu Game Reserve is known for the presence of unique species such as Gravy’s Zebra, the long-necked Gerenuk, among the wildlife that shares this semi-arid habitat.

Day 2: Discover Samburu Game Reserve
Full day in Samburu with morning and afternoon ‘Spice’ game drives. You may see Elephants, Cheetah, Leopard, Eland, Oryx, Impala, Dikdik, Waterbuck and a variety of birds.

This lava plain includes a varied landscape of red dirt, thorn scrub, broken volcanic rock, dried riverbeds, steep hills and rocky outcroppings.

Following the river’s curves, a forest of Doum Palms, Acacia and tamarind is a magical contrast of cool green. Other areas of the Reserve include the Uaso Nyiro River where crocodiles sun bath themselves on the banks.

It also provides an oasis for a variety of game. Birds are abundant, with 365 species recorded, one for every day of the year.

In between the game drives, there is an opportunity to visit a Samburu village at an additional cost.

Day 3: Samburu Game Reserve – Drive to Aberdare National Park
We travel overland south from Samburu to The Aberdare Country Club, nestled on the slopes of Mweiga Hill.

After lunch and high tea, set off for the Ark tree lodge, located in the forest on mountain slopes of the Aberdare Mountains at 7,000 feet.

This outstanding lodge offers high altitude game viewing, including animals that are rarely encountered elsewhere: giant forest hog, bush pig, tree hyrax, large spotted genet, and the elusive bongo.

Wildlife can be observed from different levels – and from outside where you can see, hear and smell everything and inside where you can sit with a cup of tea and stay warm and cozy.

You can put in a request to be awakened during the night if your favorite animals show up. A herd of Elephants might be just feet away and if you are lucky, a Leopard or large male Lion might put in an appearance.

Day 7: Lake Naivasha National Park – Drive to Masai Mara Game Reserve
After a leisure breakfast, depart overland to the Masai Mara Game Reserve-jewel of Kenya’s Game Park.

The Masai Mara is Kenya’s finest and most outstanding wildlife sanctuary where gentle rolling grassland ensures animals are never out of sight.

The climate is gentle, rarely too hot and well spread rainfall year round. The sensation of the great wildebeest migration between July and October is unparalleled.

The wildlife is far from being confined within the Reserve boundaries and an even larger area extends beyond the game Reserve.

Centuries of close association with the wildlife has resulted in an almost symbiotic relationship where wildlife and Masai people live in peace with one another.

After lunch, explore the Reserve on a late evening ‘Spice’ game drive.

No matter how much you have thought about Africa, this is more than you expected—the big five-Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Rhino and Cape buffalo are in abundance.

Day 8: Explore Masai Mara Game Reserve
Today we will be spending in the vast eco-system of the Mara searching for the big five and much more.

You also have an optional balloon safari- Many call it a once in a life time experience, once you are up, you won’t want to come down, and once you land, champagne breakfast awaits you.

Game viewing is great from the air with the opportunity for beautiful pictures. The annual wildebeest migration is expected in the Masai Mara between July and early November.

Millions of aimals migrate to the Mara from Serengeti in search for fresh green pastures and water.

It’s worth noting that every game drive is different from the other, and missing one is missing out on the fun.
