Safari Itinerary in Detail

Day 1: Kampala – Drive to Lake Mburo National Park

0700 Hours: Depart at our Hotel in Kampala/ Entebbe after breakfast. The journey to Lake Mburo National park will take you 4 hours, reaching the park in the afternoon. From Entebbe, we travel through the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda’s vibrant capital city, before beginning our journey southwest.

Along the way, we visit local markets including a drum market. When we reach the Equator we stop to take photos and test which way water drains from a bath here and continue our journey to Lake Mburo.

1300 Hours: Check-in at your accommodation in Lake Mburo National Park followed by lunch. Later in the afternoon enjoy a boat ride on Lake Mburo.

The afternoon game drive offers an excellent way to enjoy the flora and fauna in the park. Animals seen include topi, bushbuck, duiker, oribi, waterbuck, reedbuck, buffalo, warthog, bush-pig, and hippopotamus amongst others. Birding enthusiasts can look forward to spotting kingfishers, African fish eagles, and shoebill storks, amongst other waterbirds.

After the boat ride, you will return to your accommodation followed by dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, proceed for a game drive or a safari walk under the escort of an armed ranger. The leisurely pace of a walking safari also provides excellent opportunities for the keen photographer. The Kopjes are particularly interesting and camouflage klipspringers and topis.

Due to cattle herding in the area, it is amusing to see zebra grazing alongside the long-horned Ankore Cattle peaceably. Drive through the “Switzerland of Africa” area known as the Kigezi Highlands with its terraced hillside and winding roads to Bwindi.

Accommodation Options:

Budget Accommodation: Broadbill Forest Camp, Wagtail Eco safari camp, Bwindi View Bandas
Mid-range Accommodation: Gorilla Mist Camp, Nkuringo Gorilla Camp, Silverback Lodge Bwindi

Day 3: Bwindi Forest Gorilla Tracking

After an early morning breakfast and guide briefing, set off for your gorilla tracking in the forests of Bwindi. Gorilla tracking can be strenuous because of Bwindi’s challenging terrain. You will need to carry packed lunch and drinking water and wear comfortable boots or sturdy shoes, as well as carry a light rain jacket as Bwindi has unpredictable weather.

Walking sticks will be available from the park rangers. A friendly encounter with these gentle giants will be your most exciting experience! For conservation purposes, time spent with the gorillas is limited to one hour. The ranger guide always briefs you on how to behave with these gentle giants.

After an encounter with a group of gorillas some with silverbacks, one can say “a sight of Gorillas has made my lifetime tour”. In the evening, you will have a cultural walk to interact with the local people. Participate in captivating traditional performances presented by Women’s groups or orphan children groups.

Note that the fees you pay for these performances go directly to improve the welfare of families around the park.
