Tsavo East National Park

Departing from Mombasa, this 4-day wildlife road safari combines three of Kenya’s top game parks including Tsavo East National Park, Amboseli National Park and Taita Hill Game Sanctuary before returning back to Mombasa.

Stay at top-quality lodges inside Tsavo National Park, Amboseli National Park and Taita Hill Game Sanctuary enjoying sweeping views of the plains of Africa flanked by Mount Kilimanjaro.

The safari leaves Mombasa by road and begins with a visit to Tsavo East National Park. Tsavo East covers an area of 20,807 sq km and is Kenya’s largest wildlife stronghold.

The park is bisected by the main Nairobi – Mombasa road and railway. The portion lying north of the road is known as Tsavo East and the portion to the south, is Tsavo West.

Elephants in big herds are possibly the main attraction of the park with many converging on the rivers and waterholes to drink in the dry season. Many of these elephants are “red”, and this unusual colour is created by taking dust baths in the brick red earth.

Lions are not uncommon and it is also a good park to see lesser kudu as well as buffalo, common waterbuck, eland, gerenuk, fringe-eared oryx, impala and Maasai giraffe. Over five hundred species of birds have been recorded including the saddle-billed stork, martial eagle and the violet wood hoopoe.

The next stop on this 4 Day safari is the Amboseli National Park. Amboseli is famous for close encounters with big herds of elephants.  The game park is a photographer’s paradise combining close-range wildlife sightings with scenic landscapes, featuring the towering Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain.

The vegetation of the park varies seasonally with green swamps in rainy times and arid bush in dry periods, both well-suited to game viewing. Sightings include the big cats of Africa, as well as 4 of the Five of Africa.

Amboseli National Park is home to wild animals, which include the African elephant, buffalo, impala, lion, cheetah, hyena, giraffes, zebra, and wildebeest among other African animals. There is also a host of Kenya birds, both large and small, to see if you keep your eyes open and stop at every sighting.

After a night in Amboseli National Park, we travel to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary – a privately-owned wildlife sanctuary in Kenya. It is located in the Coast Province in Taita-Taveta District approximately 195 km from Amboseli.

Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary hosts Cape buffalo, elephant, leopard, Masai lion, Masai giraffe, zebra, hartebeest, impala, waterbuck, Thomson’s gazelle, lesser kudu, dik-dik, and other smaller animals, including a great diversity of birdlife.

We return back to Mombasa on Day 4 after breakfast at the lodge to arrive early evening with Africa Spice Safari memories that will last forever.
