Lake Manyara National Park

Beginning and ending in Arusha, this 4-day Tanzania road safari combines two of the most popular game parks in Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit – Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park.

After a pick-up in Arusha, we set off to the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater of Tanzania. We drive past the village of Mto wa Mbu and Lake Manyara National Park in the Great Rift Valley and continue up into the higher lands enjoying spectacular views over the Masai Plains and Lake Manyara, pausing to take photos of the breathtaking views.

Our first Tanzania safari destination is the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, also known as Africa’s Garden of Eden. We overnight at a safari lodge/ camp perched on the crater’s edge, offering sweeping views over the crater and surrounding landscapes.

Accommodation options include Bougainvillea Safari Lodge, Country Lodge, Entamanu Ngorongoro camp, Gibbs Farm, Kirurumu Ngorongoro, Lemala Ngorongoro, Neptune Ngorongoro, and Ngorongoro Crater Lodge.

On the second day, we descend the steep crater walls to explore this diverse wilderness area teeming with Africa’s wildlife. The Ngorongoro Crater hosts the Big Five of Africa, boasting one of the highest concentrations of lions in the world.

Almost all of the wild animal species found on the Savannahs of East Africa inhabit this compact crater. Ngorongoro offers first-class game viewing and is considered one of the best places to see the endangered black rhino.

Ngorongoro Crater is home to the densest mammalian population in Africa, with around 25,000 large animals. The diverse habitats found on the fertile crater floor support a variety of wildlife, including elephants, monkeys, hyenas, jackal, and herds of zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, and other antelope species.

We stop for a picnic lunch in the crater and after our thrilling wildlife experience, we head to our lodge/ camp.

On the third day, we drive to the nearby Lake Manyara National Park and explore the Park on a game drive, enjoying the stunning scenery and spotting wildlife. This national park lies in the Great Rift Valley, along the base of the steep Rift Valley escarpment, incorporating shallow soda lake and woodland areas.

Lake Manyara is famous for the huge flamingo flocks fringing its shores, numbering in the thousands at times. Over 400 bird species are found here, including migrant species and water birds, such as cormorants, geese, pelicans, and storks.

Lake Manyara National Park is best known for its tree-climbing lions and sizeable elephant population. The park is also home to large troops of big baboons, which are commonly sighted.

Other wildlife inhabiting the park in abundance, includes buffalo, cheetah, zebra, Masai giraffe, wildebeest, and impala. After a superb game viewing drive in Lake Manyara Park, we proceed to our lodge/ camp for the night.

On the fourth day of our 4 day Tanzania road safari, we return by road to Arusha where the safari comes to an end.

Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport met and assisted by an African Spice Safaris representative. Transfer to Arusha for lunch. Afternoon drive to the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact caldera in the world.

Its enduring charm stems from its overwhelming beauty and the abundance of wildlife permanently resident on the crater floor.

The Ngorongoro Crater is recognized as a UNESCO-protected World Heritage Site and forms part of an international biosphere reserve. Arrive at your lodge in the evening. Rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Explore Ngorongoro Crater

This morning we descend 2,000 feet into the giant caldera of this extinct volcano. This magnificent natural amphitheater contains the largest concentration of animals in all of Africa.

Pride of lion, black rhino, and elephant share this land with the legendary Masai tribesmen. Because the grasses are short, game is easily spotted and can be approached quite closely.

Explore the forest areas that are inhabited by monkeys and elephants, the lake area, where you may see the flamingos, and the open savannah where the lions hunt for food.

We spend a splendid morning on the floor of the crater observing wildlife in this ageless World Heritage Site.
