Tarangire National Park

One of our best African tours, this 3-day Tanzania road safari explores three of the top game parks on the Northern Safari Circuit – Tarangire, Lake Manyara, and Ngorongoro. Starting and ending in Arusha, this short Tanzania road Safari is ideal for travelers with a limited time in East Africa!

First, we explore Tarangire National Park located 118 km (75 miles) southwest of Arusha. Tarangire is home to a large variety of wildlife and is considered one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in northern Tanzania.

The Park hosts one of the largest elephant populations in Tanzania and is dotted with baobab and acacia thorn trees. Animals in the park include big cats like Lions, Leopards, and Cheetahs, as well as tree climbing Pythons. Other wildlife inhabiting the game park includes Giraffes, Buffalos, Zebras, and various Antelope species such as Gazelles.

We spend the afternoon enjoying superb game viewing in Park followed by our first night at a camp/ lodge. Accommodation options include Oliver’s Camp Tarangire, Tarangire Treetops, Chem Chem Safari Lodge, Tarangire Sopa Lodge, Maramboi Tented Camp, Lake Burunge Tented Camp, or Kirurumu Tarangire Lodge.

On day two we depart from Tarangire after breakfast admiring the scenic landscapes of northern Tanzania as we travel. We drive to the nearby Lake Manyara National Park, located northwest of Tarangire, passing through the diverse village of Mto wa Mbu and stopping for lunch along the way.

We explore the beautiful Lake Manyara Park on an afternoon game drive, enjoying the stunning scenery and spotting wildlife. Lake Manyara is famous for the huge flamingo flocks fringing its shores, numbering in thousands at times.

Over 400 bird species are found here, including migrant species and water birds, such as cormorants, geese, pelicans, and storks. The compact Lake Manyara National Park is best known for its tree-climbing Lions and sizeable Elephant population.

The park is also home to large troops of big baboons, which are commonly sighted. Other wildlife inhabiting the park in abundance, includes Buffalo, Cheetah, Zebra, Masai Giraffe, Wildebeest, and Impala. There are also plenty of Warthogs, Hippos, Mongoose, Monkeys, and various Antelope species, as well as some elusive Leopards.

We drive to our accommodations and stay at Lake Manyara Tree Lodge, Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge, Kirurumu Tented Lodge, Lake Manyara Hotel, or Lake Manyara Bush Camp.

On Day 3, we depart Lake Manyara and take a short drive through the Great Rift Valley to where the lowlands disperse making way for the richly vegetated crater highlands. We continue up into the higher lands enjoying spectacular views over the Masai Plains and Lake Manyara, pausing to take photos of the breathtaking views.

Our next Tanzania safari destination is the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater. We descend the steep crater walls to explore this diverse wilderness area teeming with Africa’s wildlife.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to the densest mammalian population in Africa, with around 25,000 large animals. The diverse habitats found on the fertile crater floor support a variety of wildlife, including Elephants, Monkeys, Hyenas, Jackal, and herds of Zebra, Wildebeest, Buffalo, and other Antelope species.

We stop for a picnic lunch in the crater and after our thrilling wildlife experience, we leaving the crater and return to Arusha where our 3-day Tanzania road safari begun.
