2 Days Kigali Mgahinga Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari begins in Kigali – Rwanda and crosses over to Uganda in Kisoro for a memorable gorilla trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park where 3 of the Virunga Volcanoes located.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is located in South West Uganda and is just 33.7 square kilometres. It is Uganda’s smallest national park and home to more than 480 mountain gorillas.

Our 2 Day Gorilla Trekking Tour is very similar to trekking in Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda since you are trekking Gorillas in the same Mountains but on the other side of them. The driving time from Kigali to Mgahinga Gorilla Park is only 3 hours.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is an important habitat for the endangered golden Monkey. This is where you find Batwa pygmies who are hunters and gatherers were the forest’s first people.

Activities in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park include Gorilla trekking, Scenic views of Mt. Muhabura, Mgahinga and Sabyinyo, track the golden monkeys, Hiking the Virunga Volcanoes in Mgahinga, learn about the hunter-gatherers and fierce warriors Batwa People, Bird-watching and exploring the 342 meters long Garama Cave.

Safari Itinerary in Detail

Day 1: Kigali Rwanda – Transfer to Mgahinga National Park

0700 Hours: Getting to Mgahinga Gorilla Park from Kigali is 3 to 4 hours (including border crossing time). After early morning breakfast, depart from the hotel by road to Kisoro town located in southwestern Uganda. This is scenic drive goes through what is known as the Gorilla Highlands of Rwanda and then Uganda.

Arrive in evening hours check-in at the lodge. Dinner and Overnight at either of the following lodges;

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking – Transfer to Kigali Rwanda

Early morning transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park to track the endangered species of Mountain Gorillas with Uganda Wildlife Authority Rangers. At the Ntebeko Visitor Information Centre, you will get a briefing about gorilla tracking.

Mgahinga has only one Gorilla group i.e Nyakagezi Family – 10 members (3 silverbacks) in the group. This is a 4 to 5-hour trek for most, a special experience.

Tracking takes only one hour in groups of 8 people. You will enter the thick forest vegetation to search for these intelligent, lively primates and when you meet them; you will spot them breastfeeding and play an experience that is very interesting.

You will have spectacular views of the Virungas, thick vegetation forests as well as different mysteries of nature. After tracking the primates, you will have lunch and transfer back to Kigali via the Cyanika Border to Kigali airport for your flight back home.

* Carry rain gear, sunscreen lotion, a hat (as the weather is unpredictable) and insect repellant
* Wear jungle shoes suitable for steep muddy slopes and carry a rain jacket because the park is often wet
* The track experience starts at 0830 Hours local time and can take three to eight hours. The Gorilla tracking fee is 500 US Dollars per – person
* We advise guests interested in Gorilla tracking to book a Gorilla permit at least 3 months in advance to ensure that requested dates are available. This is because of a high number of trackers. Please note that Gorilla tracking can be done in Rwanda and Congo as well if permits can’t be got in Uganda at the time of booking
