This short 2 day Uganda Safari begins and ends in Kampala and visits attractions such as Zika forest, a popular place for bird watching and also home to 140 types of plants, 35 saturniids, 60  moth types, leopards, snakes, and monkeys.

You will also visit Uganda Wildlife Education Center, formerly referred to as Entebbe Zoo where over 50 different animal species are represented by over 200 animals. Here you will be able to observe the animals at close sight as the animal keepers feed them, carry out health checks.  Animals in the center include Rhinos, Giraffes, Lions, Chimpanzees, and over 250 bird species.

The next attraction on the tour is the Entebbe botanical gardens which lie along the shores of Lake Victoria. These gardens offer a great introduction to Uganda’s flora and fauna. Key Birds of the gardens are orange tufted, red chested Sunbirds, and orange weaver.

On the lake and around the shore look for long-tailed Cormorant, common Squacco and black-headed herons, hamerkop, African Open-billed Stork, yellow-billed duck, etc. The gardens are also home to numerous indigenous imported plants, trees, and several monkeys.

After lunch, we visit Mabamba swamp (Mabamba wetland or Mabamba bay) and take a motorized traditional canoe tour to search for the Shoebilland and other birds such as the Angola Swallow, Swamp Flycatcher, Olive bellied Sunbird, Grey-rumped Swallow, Blue-breasted Bee-eater,  African Jacana, African Fish Eagle, etc.  Later we proceed to our accommodations in Entebbe for dinner and overnight.

On Day 2, we take a speed boat about 45 minutes to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary located 23 km offshore from Entebbe, in Lake Victoria Uganda. Ngamba Island provides a haven for rescued or orphaned chimpanzees.

The Island is nearly 100 acres in size and hosts over 50 different types of vegetation that Chimps eat in addition to the supplementary feeding provided by the sanctuary. At Ngamba Island,  observe the Chimps while on a viewing platform during their supplementary feeding times facilitated by the animal keepers.

The chimps come out from the forest at the designated feeding times. They are accustomed to the feeding times and will come close to the fence for supplementary feeding. After the feeding times, you are free to explore the island’s visitor’s area, enjoy the facilities and later travel back to Entebbe/ Kampala.
