11 Days Kenya Tsavo Amboseli Nakuru Naivasha Mara Wildlife Safari takes you to some of Kenya’s stunning national parks, a perfect combination of some of the most diverse and interesting areas.

Tsavo National Park is made up of two separate parks, Tsavo East National Park and Tsavo West National Park.

Tsavo East National Park is generally flat, with dry plains across which the Galana River flows and features include the Yatta Plateau and Lugard Falls.

Tsavo West National Park is more mountainous and wetter than its counterpart, with swamps, Lake Jipe and the Mzima Springs.

Amboseli National Park features five main wildlife habitats (open plains, acacia woodland, rocky thorn bush country, swamps and marshland) and covers part of a Pleistocene lake basin, now dry.

Lake Nakuru National Park lies on the e floor of the Great Rift Valley, surrounded by wooded and bushy grassland. Lake Naivasha is a beautiful freshwater lake, fringed by thick papyrus.

The lake is home to over 400 species of birds. Masai Mara is widely considered to be Africa’s greatest wildlife reserve. The Mara comprises200 sq miles of open plains, woodlands and riverine forest.

Safari Itinerary in Detail

Day 1: Nairobi – Drive to  Tsavo East National Park

Early in the morning, depart for Tsavo East National Park which is renowned for its large numbers of Elephants and the famous Man Eating Lions (during the building of the Kenya / Uganda Railway in 1890).

The vegetation around Tsavo East National Park is savannah grassland with thorny bushes and some swampy marshland near the Voi River.

Day 2: Explore Tsavo East National Park

Spend the whole day in the park with packed lunch in search of its popular residents like the well-known predators and their opponents like the Zebra, Wildebeest, Giraffe, Hippo, and a visit to Aruba Dam.

The park is inhabited by a wide range of plains game including zebra, several species of antelope among them lesser kudu and hartebeest, warthog and ostrich as well as elephant herds which plunder their way through bush and scrub to the permanent waters of the Athi River.

Day 3: Tsavo East National Park – Drive to Tsavo West National Park

Wake up for an early game drive, later return to the hotel for breakfast then proceed to Tsavo West National Park. Arrive in the lodge for lunch.

Tsavo West National Park features wildlife including elephant, rhino, hippo, lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, diverse plant and bird species including the threatened corncrake and near threatened Basra Reed Warbler.

There is the Mzima Springs which can be seen bubbling to the surface producing massive amounts of freshwater per hour.

Day 4: Tsavo West National Park – Drive to Amboseli National Park

Start the day with a morning game viewing drive and watch the African Sunrise as the natural world unfolds amid the freshness and beauty of the morning.

Then return to the lodge for breakfast and later depart for Amboseli National Park.

Enjoy an afternoon game drive within the Amboseli park which lies on the floors of Mount Kilimanjaro and offers scenic backgrounds for photography.

Day 5: Discover Amboseli National Park

We awaken to the sights and sounds of big game country and, if we’re lucky, to a view of Kilimanjaro often unclouded in the early morning sky.

In addition to elephant, antelope, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, and the rare black rhino.

Amboseli is sought after by travelers in the know for its breathtaking scenery and easily approachable wildlife. There is also a host of Kenya birds, both large and small, to see if you keep your eyes open and stop at every sighting.

Just after daybreak, we venture into the crisp morning air in search of the great herds. Our game drives are sure to reveal great wonders.

Day 6: Amboseli National Park – Drive to Nakuru National Park

Depart Amboseli after breakfast. Our destination today is Lake Nakuru National Park.  We stop for lunch at an upscale restaurant in Nairobi and reach the Park in time for an afternoon game drive.

Here we can expect to see buffalo, rhino, giraffe, zebra, antelope, and the lions that prey on them as well as vast flocks of flamingos clustered near the lakeshore.

Lake Nakuru is famous for having the highest concentration of flamingos in the world and is home to over three hundred bird species.

It is a sanctuary for both the Black and White Rhinos.  Also found in plenty are zebras, waterbucks, buffaloes, and warthogs.

Leopards are sometimes seen sleeping on the horizontal branches of the “Fever trees”. Supper is at our lodge overlooking the lake.

Day 7: Lake Nakuru National Park – Drive to Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, depart for Lake Naivasha.  Lake Naivasha is a beautiful freshwater lake, fringed by thick papyrus with Hippos lazing in the lake and Buffalos grazing on the shores.

Bird watching includes Grey-capped Warbler, Spectacled Weaver, Brimstone Canary, Red-billed Firefinch, and 350 other species.

Enjoy boat trips on the lake or a nature walk on Crescent Island where you reach Wildebeest, Zebra, and Giraffes from up close.

Day 8: Explore Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, depart for Hell’s Gate National Park. Hell’s Gate is a unique Park where walking is allowed in the middle of wildlife.

There are choices of walking, cycling, and rock-climbing within the park. Horseback safaris can also be arranged. Special locations to view include Fischer’s Tower, formerly a volcano’s plug, the Central Tower, and Njorowa Gorges.

Two extinct volcanoes: Olkaria and Hobley’s are worth a trip. Natural steam vents rise from fissures in the volcanic rock. Obsidian, a striking black glassy rock formed from cooled molten lava is a feature of this landscape.

Game to view includes buffalo, Masai Giraffe, eland, Coke’s Hartebeest, etc.

A haven for ornithologists and rock climbers, the cliffs of Hell’s Gate are breeding grounds for vultures, Verreaux’s Eagles, augur buzzard, and thousands of swifts; 103 species of bird have been recorded in the park.

Day 9: Lake Naivasha – Drive to Masai Mara Game Reserve

Depart Lake Naivasha for Masai Mara Game Reserve-jewel of Kenya’s Game Park.

This enormous Reserve actually part of the vast Serengeti plains is famously known for its spectacular great wildebeest migration and is a true home of the big five-Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Rhino, and Cape Buffalo.

Upon arrival, lunch will follow. After lunch, explore the reserve on a late evening ‘Spice’ game drive. In the evening, we relax around the camp/ Lodge fire before an excellent dinner.

Day 10: Explore Masai Mara Game Reserve

The Masai Mara is one of the greatest wildernesses of the world. Morning and afternoon ‘Spice’ game drives are planned. Large mammals are varied, abundant, and easy to see.

Residents among the Parks mammals are; Masai Giraffe, Buffalo, Impala, Zebra, Topi, both the Thomson’s and Grant’s Gazelles. The best Hot Air Balloon rides are available on this day at an additional cost.

Day 11: Masai Mara – Drive to Nairobi

Breakfast and one last look at the Mara before we head back to Nairobi by road. We check into our hotel and enjoy a few hours of relaxation by the pool or perhaps revisit a favorite shop or two.

After dinner, we proceed to the airport knowing that this has been a journey to remember for the rest of our lives.
