Treetop Lodge Hotel Aberdare; Treetop Lodge Hotel Aberdare located in Aberdare National Park, Nyeri in Kenya and is the original tree lodge in Kenya - world famous for its location facing a water hole and a salt lick in the Aberdare National Park as well as its historical royal connection.

Treetop Lodge Hotel lies at 6,450 feet above sea level. The famous Treetops hotel started life in a very humble way. In 1932 its first visitors gingerly climbed the wild fig tree supporting the two room tree house. By 1952, Treetops had expanded. Now a four room construction, Treetops welcomed, in February of the same year, its most famous visitor.

A young English girl climbed the tree as a Princess one afternoon, to descend the following morning Queen Elizabeth II - her father; King George VI had died during the night. By now, Treetops lodge reputation had spread far and wide and for the globetrotter, the rich, the famous and the fashionable no safari in Kenya was regarded as complete without experiencing the Treetops Hotel adventure.

Treetop Lodge Hotel Aberdare lies in the path of an ancient Elephant migratory route between the Aberdare Mountains and Mt Kenya National park, and is strategically sited right in front of a watering hole and salt lick.

Guests can drink in the sight of Elephants, Buffalos, Rhinos and more from the safety of four viewing decks and a rooftop platform. Shutterbugs can take close shots from two photographic hides at ground level.

Die-hard animal lovers need not worry about missed sightings, even into the early hours of the morning. An optional buzzer in the rooms alerts the guests when a spectacle is unfolding at the waterhole. Game drives and a lecture about Treetops are also available to the guests.

Treetop Lodge Hotel Aberdare sits-on-stilts and is space-efficient on the inside as it is unassuming on the outside. Trees grow right through the building. There are 50 cozy rooms and two suites, a lounge overlooking the waterhole and two bars. There is also a restaurant where dinner is served on charming old world refectory tables with bench seating.

Going to Treetop Lodge Hotel Aberdare is done in groups from the Outspan Hotel in Nyeri. The last bus leaves at 5:00pm. The 50 cabins are very small, an explanation for leaving bulky luggage overnight at Outspan Hotel in Nyeri and allowing just one handbag to each person.

Nights at Treetops are very cold and therefore, endeavor to put a few clothes for warmth in your luggage. Some of the small rooms have a private bathroom, while the rest share showers and toilets. Later, after dinner, (an experience in itself) food is put out for bush babies, which you are very unlikely to see in other circumstances. Genets are also likely to come in for food. See the big 5 coming down to the waterhole for a drink as well as many other species of animal and bird.
