Timau River Lodge is a self-catering accommodation located in the foothills of Mt. Kenya about 20 km north of Nanyuki Town. The lodge sits toward Isiolo, just 1 km past Timau Town and 1 km off the main road.
The lodge is only a km from the Nanyuki-Samburu road and is surrounded by 800 acres of cedar forest. The lodge sits in the Northern and Laikipia plains, 20 km from the Lewa Downs Conservancy.
Mt Kenya Sirimon route gate is 9 km away, while Sweetwaters (Ol Pejeta) is 44 km; Meru National Park is 130 km, while Solio Ranch, famous for rhinos, is 70 km away.
The lodge offers authentic log cabins with a fireplace. The lodge has 13 cottages that accommodate 20 guests, 19 budget bandas with two beds each, and a main house that accommodates 20 guests. There is a campsite located amongst trees at the top of a very pretty waterfall with tents and bedding that can accommodate a total of 80 guests.
The thatched cottages vary in size, and the campsite is well equipped with a large covered cooking area. Guests who prefer not to self-cater can use the on-site restaurant, perched in a forest canopy and specializing in Indian cuisine, including curries and vegetarian meals.
The meals are freshly prepared with local produce, preserving that authentic taste. There is a well-stocked bar with a fireplace and pool table, an ideal place to relax and unwind.
The bar serves a variety of beers, spirits, and wines. Timau River Lodge sits at 2240 meters, so evenings can be particularly cool, and you’ll definitely want warm clothing. The lodge sits in an idyllic setting, with a wide range of animals roaming free: peacocks, Ducks, Geese, Tortoises, guinea fowl, etc.
Lodge activities include camel treks, cultural visits, nature walks, bird watching, trout fishing, and cycling. Guests can also visit Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Mau Mau Caves, tree-planting projects, Timau Forest, and trek to Mount Kenya.
