Detailed Itinerary

 

Day 1

Arusha – Lake Manyara National Park

Depart Arusha for Lake Manyara National Park. Arrive at the lodge by lunch time. Lunch and afternoon game drive follows in this very scenic park with fabulous views over the valley to the lake below. Lake Manyara National Park is small, beautiful and richly diverse, its manageable size makes it possible to see virtually every highlight in a day, from its pods of hippos wallowing in the lake alongside the pink fluttering of a million flamingoes, to its rich wildlife and perhaps some of the park’s famous tree-lounging lions.

Day 2

Lake Manyara – Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, we’re off on the next leg of our journey to Ngorongoro, the eighth wonder of the natural world. Along the way we drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area—a region created to accommodate the grazing needs of the Maasai people and a unique test of the idea that humans leading a pastoral lifestyle can coexist with wildlife. We arrive at Ngorongoro in time for lunch at our stunning lodge, situated on the rim of the crater. Later after lunch we descend 2,000 feet into the giant caldera of this extinct volcano. This magnificent natural amphitheater contains the largest concentration of animals in all of Africa. Prides of lion, black rhino and elephant share this land with the legendary Maasai tribesmen. Because the grasses are short, game is easily spotted and can be approached quite closely. We spend a splendid morning on the floor of the crater observing wildlife in this ageless World Heritage Site.

Day 3

Ngorongoro Crater – Tarangire National Park

Today we drive to Tarangire National Park. With a permanent water source, the park is virtually guaranteed enormous herds and excellent game viewing including cheetah, lion (some tree-climbing!), leopard and hyena and a herd of 3,500 elephants. The park is also host to a number of rare species including eland, oryx, kudu and gerenuk. Our accommodations are at Tarangire Sopa Lodge, a tranquil oasis overlooking the rolling plains.

Day 4

Tarangire – Drive back to Arusha – Depart

After a leisurely buffet breakfast, depart for Arusha by road this morning with a game drive en- route.
