Sweetwaters Tented Camp; Sweetwaters Tented Camp is set in a 24000 acre wildlife sanctuary. The luxury Sweetwaters Tented Camp is a unique property and a favorite with intrepid travelers looking for a tented camp experience in a well cared for animal sanctuary.

Abounding with wildlife, and unfettered by the more inflexible structures of the Kenyan National Parks and designed to offer a charming mix of under canvas ambiance and un compromised luxury, it has long been the preferred retreat of wilderness and safari goers alike.

Located in one of only four private game reserves in Kenya, Sweetwaters Tented Camp excels in the provision of privileged seclusion and private game viewing. Thanks to its private status it also allows such pleasures as the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary (the only place in Kenya to see these highly endangered animals), night game drives, guided bush walks and both horse or camel riding across its plains.

Accommodation is provided in 39 luxuriously appointed tents (17 doubles, 14 twins and 8 triples). Sweetwaters Tented Camp tents have a thatched roof, an en suite bathroom and its own verandah with views over the water hole. Full room service is provided.

Sweetwaters Tented Camp prides itself on the quality of its cuisine offering a 5 - course "table d’hote" dining experience every night, and a selection of African, Asian, and international dishes. Built in the 1970’s, the Camp’s main building was originally the residence of the ranch manager. Ol Pejeta Conservancy was once the private domain of famed multi-millionaire, Adnan Khashoggi.

Sweetwaters Tented Camp accommodation is provided in 39 luxuriously appointed tents. Each tent has a thatched roof, an en-suite bathroom and its own veranda with views over the waterhole.

Full room service is provided. Sweetwaters Tented Camp Guest room facilities include power outlet for hair dryer, shaver, sockets (Hairdryer available on request from the Reception Desk).

Laundry and valet services are provided. Sweetwaters Tented Camp prides itself on the quality of its cuisine offering a 5-course "table d’hôte" dining experience every night, and a selection of African, Asian, and international dishes.

The camp also offers a memorable selection of safari luncheons, bush dinners, campfire suppers and "sundowners" safari cocktails. Business services: secretarial services, internet services available.

Sweetwaters Tented Camp Activities

Sweetwaters Tented Camp enjoys spectacular views over the alternately lush and golden plains towards the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya. Because Sweetwaters Camp has its own private waterhole and saltlick, guests may enjoy unprecedented close encounters with the wildlife in the sanctuary of their natural habitat.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is the closest place from Nairobi to see "The Big Five" (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo). It is also the Largest Black Rhino Sanctuary in East Africa, boasting a population of 78 black rhino!

Its other wildlife includes an exciting catalogue of; white rhino, giraffe, zebra, eland, oryx, waterbuck, Grant’s gazelle, Thompson’s gazelle, cheetah, silver-backed jackal, hartebeest and baboon. The conservancy also boasts several hundred bird species. Ol Pejeta Conservancy has the highest ratio of game to area of any park or reserve in Kenya.

Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary

Sweetwaters Tented Camp is close to a Chimpanzee Sanctuary established in cooperation with the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Jane Goodall Institute for Conservation Projects for Chimpanzees Throughout the World, the 1 km sq sanctuary is a non-profit-making venture and the only sanctuary of its kind in Kenya.

A gentle and charming diversion for children and adults alike, it offers visitors the unique opportunity of taking a boat ride on the Ewaso Nyiro River, which flows through the centre of the sanctuary where 26 orphaned chimps enjoy the peace and harmony of their natural environment.
