Ol Pejeta Conservancy is only 3 hours drive from Nairobi and welcomes day visitors. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy’s main gate is 14 kilometers from the equator turn off, just before Nanyuki town.

 

Ol Pejeta Conservancy boasts an astounding variety of animals, including the “Big Five” (the endangered black and white rhino, leopard, elephant, buffalo and lion), Grevy’s zebra, Jackson’s hartebeest, cheetah and chimpanzee.

Sweetwaters Tented Camp is a sheltered oasis, clustered around a waterhole and set in the pristine calm of its own private reserve. Abounding with wildlife, unfettered by the more rigorous strictures of national parks, Sweetwaters offers a charming blend of under-canvas ambience and casual luxury.

 

One of only four private game reserves in Kenya, it excels in the provision of privileged seclusion and private game viewing. The reserve is also home to a 24,000 acre rhino sanctuary and an extensive chimpanzee project under the direction of Jane Goodall, whose goal is to rehabilitate and home orphaned and abused chimps— a visit is a highlight.

Transfers by road from Nairobi takes approximately 3.5 hours. Ol Pejeta House is set against the spectacular backdrop of magnificent Mount Kenya in 24,000 acres of Ol Pejeta - Sweetwaters Conservancy still retains the bygone tradition of Kenya's famous farmhouse hospitality.


Ol Pejeta Sweetwaters lodge was once the exclusive ranch house of multi-millionaire Adnan Kashoggi. The private lodge is set in extensive grounds, with glorious views of Mount Kenya.

 

Ol Pejeta Sweetwaters mansion features a series of reception rooms, including an elegant drawing room with baronial fireplace and a series of scenic verandas, which extend right around the house.

 

Accommodation includes a private guest cottage, two master suites and two guest bedrooms while the grounds include two private swimming pools and a barbeque and external dining area.


Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which is host to all the members of the ‘Big Five' (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard), has a higher wildlife-to-area ratio than any Kenyan National Park and is one of only four private game conservancies to have been founded in Kenya.

Porini Rhino Camp is located within the 90,000 acre (365 square kilometer) Ol Pejeta Conservancy, on a verdant plateau between the foothills of the Aberdares Range and the stately snow-capped peak of Mount Kenya.

 

Porini Rhino Camp at the equator in central Kenya, northwest of Mount Kenya and is an hour’s drive from Nanuyki, the capital of Laikipia East District, 120 miles (190 kilometers) north of Nairobi.

 

Porini Rhino Camp is hidden in a secluded valley and set amongst shady acacia trees on the banks of a seasonal river. The camp consists of six spacious guest tents, each comfortably furnished with en suite bathrooms.

 

Porini Rhino Camp is very environmentally-friendly with solar powered lighting and no generator. Guided walks are taken on the open plains escorted by Maasai warriors.

 

Night drives are also taken to see the nocturnal animals. All the Big Five have been seen on game drives from the Porini Rhino Camp.

Kicheche Laikipia Camp; Kicheche Laikipia Camp is a small luxurious tented camp, nestled at the foot of an indigenous forest overlooking a waterhole in the centre of the 110,000-acre Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which lies on the Laikipia plains, 217 Kilometers from Nairobi and 14 Kilometers from Nanyuki town. Transfers by road from Nairobi take approximately 3.5 hours.

 

Kicheche Laikipia Camp consists of six luxurious tents. The tents are custom designed and are fully insect-proof with en-suite bathrooms equipped with a dresser, flushing toilet and hot showers.

 

There are comfortable chairs on each verandah overlooking the waterhole. One tent can be converted into a triple on request. There is a spacious well furnished lounge and dining tent, although we prefer to eat alfresco if weather permits.

 

Kicheche Laikipia Camp offers a full selection of game-viewing activities including Day Game Drives, Night Game Drives which focus on nocturnal species not seen on regular day drives. Interpretative Game Walks are another activity permitted on the Conservancy.


Kicheche Laikipia Camp guests can also visit a Wildlife Educational Centre which is interesting for both children and adults alike, and the Chimpanzee Sanctuary for orphaned chimps is an excellent venue to observe Chimpanzee and learn about the perils facing chimpanzees in the wild.

Ol Pejeta Bush Camp; Ol Pejeta Bush Camp is a traditional tented safari camp, set on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in 110,000-acre Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which lies on the Laikipia plains 17 km from Nanyuki and 217 km from Nairobi.

 

Just three and a half hour's drive from Nairobi, Ol Pejeta Bush Camp is as the name suggests a real ‘bush camp’ where you can expect comfortable but basic tented accommodation (with the luxury of an en-suite bathroom), delicious food and great company.

 

Ol Pejeta Bush Camp has 6 tents with twin beds, accommodating a total of 12 guests. The camp can be booked exclusively for a family or group of 4 or more for a small supplement per night. Further temporary tents can be added for larger groups if necessary.

 

Ol Pejeta Bush Camp gives a unique safari experience, described by guests as ‘the real Africa’, offering interactive conservation activities, whereby guests are given the opportunity to experience modern wildlife conservation first-hand.

Ol Pejeta Bush Camp offers an interesting range of educational and interactive activities in addition to bush walks and day and night game drives.

 

Guests can meet with the researchers based at Ol Pejeta and monitor elephant and track rhino and lion on foot or you can spend some time in the hide at the waterhole to see what turns up.

 

There is also the opportunity for sleep outs in the bush beside the water hole where all equipment including night vision monucular is included. Ol Pejeta is East Africa’s biggest Rhino sanctuary offering the chance to see the now very rare and endangered animals.

 

There is also a Chimanpazee Sanctuary within the Conservancy, originally started by the renowned expert Jane Goodall and home to over 50 rescued chimps. Ol Pejeta Bush Camp also makes a good base for those wishing to climb Mount Kenya.

Pelican House

Pelican House Upcountry Cottage, Ol Pejeta Conservancy / Sweetwaters Game Reserve

Pelican House is a thatched upcountry cottage. It has an open plan living and dining room with a huge fireplace, and a separate equipped kitchen.

 

Three bedrooms of which two open onto a covered veranda and a wooden deck extends out towards the dam and extensive views. Electricity comes from a quiet generator.

 

There is house and garden staff available and security is provided. The grounds are maintained, a lawn and colorful gardens, surrounded by the natural bush.

 

Located within the protected grounds of the vast natural Ol Pejeta Conservancy; elephants, giraffe, rhinos, lions, hippos, cheetahs, ostriches and antelope have all been seen from the house windows and deck.
