called The Ark.
In

be quiet and only animals are allowed to make noise.
The lodge has friendly personnel and offers delicious
meals and special drinks.
The Ark which looks like a ship is situated near a saltlick
where you can watch day in and day out the visits of
the wild animals that come to the watering hole. At
night you can choose to be wakened if one of the big
five animals comes into view. For your safety guests
are not allowed to leave the lodge.
Early
next morning you will have a nice breakfast in the Ark,
after which you will be driven back to the Aberdare
Country Club. African Spice Safaris awaits you here
and will bring you back to Sandai.
Day
Safari to the Aberdare National Park
After
an early breakfast you will set off with a prepared
picnic basket for the Aberdare's National Park. The
Park with its magnificent landscape offers a wonderful
unique opportunity. To view scenery you don’t
necessarily expect in Africa.
Heavy
rainfalls provide a very lush green looking flora in
the lower parts of the forest. The rainforest reaches
an altitude of 2400 meters; bamboo forest grows up to
3000 meters from where the landscape changes to Afro
alpine zone.
The highest peak on these moorlands reaches an altitude
of 4000m. Plant species, such giant lobelia, groundsels
and others, can be found in the sheltered valleys. Deep
gorges cut off the mountain areas, where you will find
crystal clear rivers well stocked with mountain trout,
threading their way across the moorlands and cascading
over a series of magnificent waterfalls to form the
headwaters of several major rivers.
Main
animals to be seen here are the buffalo, elephant, bushbuck,
wild pigs, colobus monkeys, but the rhino, lions, leopard,
hyena are also at home in this National Park. You will
stop at a beautiful and secure place for a picnic and
arrive at home just before nightfall.
Mountain
Climbing to Mt. Kenya (3 Days)
If you want to reach
the third highest and most popular peak of Mt Kenya
(almost 5000 meters high) you don’t need special
climbing skills. What you need is a good guide and you
should be in good physical condition. After you have
managed to reach one of the peaks your guide will honor
you with a certificate and you will be proud of your
extraordinary achievement.
On average this hike
will take 3 days and two nights sleeping either in a
tent or in huts. Beside your guide you will also have
a porter who carries your luggage and food. All
you need is a light warm sleeping bag, good mountain
boots and warm clothing. You will be either collected
from Sandai or African Spice Safaris will take you to
your departure place, and the same on your return from
the Mountain.
Day
Safari to Sweetwaters Game Reserve
An hour's drive from
Sandai you will find Ol Pejeta Farm with its big game
reserve near Mount Kenya called Sweetwaters. Here you
can watch elephants, rhinos, zebras, giraffes, hippos
and of course all sorts of antelopes. A special area
of the park is dedicated by the Jane Goodall Institution
for a group of chimpanzees.
These primates are
not indigenous to Kenya but mostly have
been rescued from the Congo where their lives have been
threatened.
