Richard’s Private Camp: Richard’s Private camp is hosted by Richard and Liz; it is open for those who wish to experience the wonders of the Masai Mara in a totally private setting. With a maximum number of ten beds this camp is booked on an exclusive basis only. Richard’s Private Camp is a small boutique camp in the Masai Mara when their son was born. Sleeping a maximum of 10 guests, it is now open and available to book for those who want total privacy. Built entirely under canvas and as low impact as possible this camp is the epitome of simple luxury and intimacy.

Richard’s Private Camp accommodation has been decorated by Liz, who has collected beautiful antiques from around the world, the result is a unique camp with the highest quality linen and furnishings. The guests’ tents have en-suite outdoor bathrooms with 24-hour hot running water and flushing loos. Richard’s Private Camp has 5 tents in total – 2 double rooms and 3 twin rooms which can be made into doubles. One tent can be used a triple, or if the children are very young, 2 extra beds can be added. Total Capacity: 10 guests (can go to a maximum of 12) Guide Tents: There is one guide tent available. Water for the showers comes from the local spring. Mineral water is provided in all rooms and on activities. The camp tries to minimize plastic waste so whilst all of our drinking water is mineral water we decant it from large recyclable containers; bottled water is used only on activities.

All of the lighting at Richard’s Private Camp is from candles and lamps, providing a beautiful ambient light throughout camp. Camera batteries can be charged on our solar power system. Voltage: 240 V. Outlet: Square 3-pin. If necessary, mobile phone and mobile internet service can be found a short drive from camp. There is a satellite phone in camp in case of emergency.

Richard’s Private Camp serves Breakfast of fresh fruit, cereals, and a selection of cooked breakfasts; fresh, home-made buffet lunches and 3-course dinners under the stars. There is also the option for breakfast, lunches and dinners out in the wilderness. The camp caters for all food preferences or allergies – advance dietary information is requested. Richard’s Private Camp is closed in May & November.

Richard’s Private Camp activities include Private hosting and guiding by Richard Roberts; day & night game drives; escorted wildlife, birding and scenic bush walks; bush meals; sundowners; cultural visits to a local Masai village. The Masai Mara is home to the colorful and handsome Masai people, pastoral nomads who are synonymous with the region. At an additional cost and by advance request: Scenic flights directly from camp with Richard Roberts as your pilot, flying low over the game with a landing on the Mara escarpment and a scenic walk (payment can be made in camp). Hot air balloon flights; day trips to Lake Victoria; (by advance request) scenic flights in a Waco bi-plane or
helicopter.

Richard’s Private Camp includes: Exclusive use of camp and vehicle; private guiding & hosting by Richard Roberts; full-board accommodation; soft drinks, beers, house wines, house vodka & gin; laundry and activities as above.
