(Pelican House Upcountry Cottage is situated inside Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya’s Laikipia County adjacent to Nanyuki town. Ol Pejeta’s main gate is 14 kilometers from the equator turn off, just before Nanyuki town. Pelican House is 8 kilometers further inside the Conservancy.


Alternatively, a scheduled 40 minute flight to the nearby town of Nanyuki is available from Nairobi Wilson Regional Airport, with pickup and drive to Pelican House.)

Pelican House Self-Catering Cottage at Ol Pejeta Conservancy has the perfect solution for those who wish to stay at a wildlife Conservancy and not stay at a lodge or a hotel.

 

Pelican House is a thatched upcountry cottage. It has an open plan living and dining room with a huge fireplace, and a separate equipped kitchen. Three bedrooms of which two open onto a covered veranda and a wooden deck extends out towards the dam and extensive views. Electricity comes from a quiet generator.

 

There is house and garden staff available and security is provided. The grounds are maintained, a lawn and colorful gardens, surrounded by the natural bush. Located within the protected grounds of the vast natural Ol Pejeta Conservancy; elephants, giraffe, rhinos, lions, hippos, cheetahs, ostriches and antelope have all been seen from the house windows and deck.

 

Pelican House is exclusively designed to support Ol Pejeta’s Community Development Programmes. Thus while a visit to a world class conservation entity is an experience in itself – to which Pelican House is of notable regard – every shilling spent at the house goes to assist our community neighbors.

Pelican House Self-Catering Cottage was originally built as a cattle ranch manager's house the house has been completely renovated on the inside to accommodate visitors.

 

Pelican House is now located within the expansive views of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a 90000+ acre natural reserve teeming with wildlife.


Reserved and secluded, it has no other development in sight. It is a great location to experience the iconic wildlife and quiet grasslands of the East African savannah.

Pelican House Self-Catering Cottage covered patio faces east offering stunning early morning views of the sunrise behind Mt. Kenya. An elevated wooden deck faces west allowing for great views of the wildlife, watering hole and beautiful evening sunsets.

Flower gardens and a green lawn surround Pelican House. A vegetable garden growing fresh supper ingredients sits next to the house.


Pelican House Self-Catering Cottage Location
Pelican House is situated within the vast Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya and East Africa. Ol Pejeta Conservancy is located in the mid Kenya highlands at 1800m (6000 ft) altitude. The temperature is moderate; 20-25C (68-78F) during the day and 10-15C (50-60F) at night.


Situated on a small hill, Pelican House overlooks a watering pond and the grassland savannah beyond. A discrete electric fence separates the house grounds from the encircling wildlife area.


Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Ol Pejeta Conservancy is an extensive 90,000+ acre natural wildlife park situated between the foothills of the Aberdares Range and dominant snow capped Mount Kenya.

 

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a leader wildlife conservation in Kenya and is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa.


Kenya
Ol Pejeta is located within the Laikipia District of Kenya on the edge of the Rift Valley. Straddling the equator, the Conservancy sits on semi-arid grasslands affording plenty of sunshine and wildlife viewing opportunities.

 

 

 

Pelican House Self-Catering Cottage has the following facilities:
* Cedar dining table with ten seats
* Traditional thatched roof overhead
* Four additional single beds are available
* Fridge/ freezer available, as well as gas cooker

* Writing tables under the windows facing Mount Kenya

* Three bedrooms each with a king size bed and soft duvets

* Spacious living and dining room with sofas and large stone fireplace
* Arrival time is 3pm and departure time is 10am, unless prior arrangement is made

* Two washrooms and one half bathrooms with oversize bathtubs and a small powder room
* Please note that Pelican House is only accessible by 4WD vehicles during the rainy season


Pelican House Self-Catering Cottage Staff:
While staying in Pelican House the staff will promptly cater to your daily needs. The house staff includes housekeeping, someone to assist with cooking, a grounds keeper and night watchman. The house is rented as self catering. Included in the price of your stay is:

Pelican House Self-Catering Cottage Child Friendly
Many children have stayed at Pelican House, some for extended periods of time. Children of all ages are welcome. Excepting the wooden deck overlooking the animal watering hole; the entire house is at ground level.

 

The wooden deck has a gate to prevent toddler access. The fireplace has a wire screen and the kitchen and cleaning supplies can be made out of reach.

Meet Baraka the Friendly Rhino at the Ol Pejeta Visitor Education Centre. Interactive talks with the centre's knowledgeable staff enhance the African wildlife experience.
