Lake Manyara National Park. ‘Manyara’ in Maasai is ‘Emanyara’, a type of hedge the Maasai use to cover their bomas. . The park is dominated by the alkaline Lake Manyara, which is great for bird watching as it provides food for the large flocks of pelicans, flamingoes and others species. The park is famous for its tree climbing lions which love resting on the branches of the acacia trees and sausage trees.

 

Ngorongoro Conservation Area, known for its scenic beauty, surreal environment and a variety of animals and birds. It is one of the world’s greatest natural spectacles; its magical setting and abundant wildlife never fails to enthrall visitors. The ever-changing weather patterns provide a dramatic backdrop to the scenery and prolific wildlife. The surrounding area contains sites of international paleontological and archaeological importance.

 

The terrain in the crater embraces several distinct habitats that range from open grassland to forests and from scrub bushland to highland heath. It is the largest unbroken volcanic caldera in the world.

 

The crater has a high concentration of game as they gather to graze on the grasslands and drink water around the permanent water points. The crater serves as a sanctuary for the endangered black rhino, while the swamps are home to many hippo. The local saltpan lake, Lake Magadi is a perfect spot for bird viewing.

3 Days/ 2 Nights Ngorongoro Crater & Lake Manyara Safari Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania
Distance: 190 km approximately 4 Hours by road.

Pick up from your hotel in Arusha Town. Drive to Ngorongoro Crater with unique views of the high altitude rain forest surrounding the rim. Lunch at your lodge. Afternoon descend to the crater for game viewing. Ngorongoro Serena Lodge built into the rim of a dormant volcano.

 

The plant and ivy-covered native stone blends perfectly with the surroundings. Guest rooms have private terraces with views of the crater floor where countless animals make their home. This collapsed caldera is 610 meters deep and has a floor 18 km wide. Views from the rim of the crater are spectacular.

 

The crater has become a unique conservation area where Lion, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo roam in perfect safety.

Day 2: Ngorongoro Drive to Lake Manyara, Tanzania

Distance: 60 km approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

After breakfast depart to Lake Manyara National Park. Lunch and afternoon game drive in this superb scenic Park set around Lake Manyara, most famous for the tree climbing lions.

 

Lake Manyara is a bird watcher's paradise. Marvel at the variety of species, spoonbill, teal, pelican, kingfisher, hornbill and cormorant. In the tall trees, forest monkeys leap from branch to branch on the slope of the Great Rift escarpment, elephants stand in the shade of the baobab; and in the acacia woodland lions lie draped along the branches of the umbrella trees.

Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park – Drive to Arusha
