ABOUT HELL'S GATE NATIONAL PARK
Hell's Gate National Park covers an area of 68.25
km2 and is situated in the environs of Lake Naivasha
about 90 km from Nairobi. The park is situated 14
km after the turnoff from the old Nairobi-Naivasha
highway. It is characterized by diverse topography
and geological scenery. It is an important home of
the lammergeyer. The park main vegetation is chiefly
grasslands and scrublands with the latter being dominated
by Leleshwa and several species of acacia. There is
also a wide diversity of succulents in the area. There
are cobra’s, pythons and insects/arthropods
like grasshoppers, butterflies, bees, termites.
Animals available include: Aardvark,
Aardwolf, Baboon, Honey Badger, African Buffalo, Bushbuck,
Caracal, Cheetah, Civet, Damara Dik-Dik, Wild Dog,
Duiker, Eland, Bat Eared Fox, Grants Gazelle, Thomson's
Gazelle, Large Spotted Genet, Small Spotted Genet,
Giraffe and many more. You will be able to sight the
following birds: Avocet; Babbler, Black-lored; Barbet,
Red-fronted; Bee-eater, Blue-cheeked; Bee-eater, European;
Bee-eater, Little; Bee-eater, Madagascar; Bee-eater,
White-fronted; Bee-eater, White-throated; Bishop,
Yellow; Bittern, Dwarf; Bittern, Little; Bulbul, Yellow-vented;
Bunting, Cinnamon-breasted; Bunting, Golden-breasted;
Buzzard and Augur -just to name a few.
