OVERNIGHT TRIP TO SHIMBA HILLS NATIONAL RESERVE
This short safari features Shimba Hills National Park,
which is only 48 km from the coast, and the only reserve
in Kenya where the rare roan and sable antelope can
be sighted. Accommodation is at Shimba Rainforest Lodge,
where there is a 120m walkway extending well into the
forest, which enables guests to view game at close quarters
and gives bird-lovers the opportunity to sit quietly
and enjoy the colorful spectacle of many forest birds.
Day 1: Mombasa - Shimba Hills National
Park
Depart from your hotel after lunch and drive
to Shimba National Park. The Park thrust nearly
450 meters out of the coastal plain, an enchanting
other world, lonely and remote from the heat
below. This pristine wonderland of Rolling Meadows
and forests of giant primeval trees harbors
a wide variety of wildlife, including some 500
elephant that favor the refreshing fruit of
the borassus palm. A ‘Spice’ Game
drive will follow entry looking for the rare
sable and many other animals. Overnight at the
Shimba Lodge (a Tree Top Hotel at the coast).
