Matemwe Retreat Zanzibar is located in Matemwe by the sea and within the region of Mapenzi Beach and Kendwa Beach. This 5-star resort is within the region of Nungwi Beach and Mnarani Natural Aquarium. Matemwe is just 60 minutes drive from Stone Town, allowing for easy day trips and excursions to all corners of this fascinating island.

Matemwe Retreat Zanzibar is located in the northeast part of Zanzibar Island known as Matemwe. This area is famous for its fine white sand beaches, the contrasting colors of the Indian Ocean, and the beauty of the coral reef around Mnemba Island.

Situated slightly north of Matemwe Lodge in an elevated position, Matemwe Retreat Zanzibar enjoys unspoilt views through palm trees of the Indian Ocean and Mnemba Island. Wooden walkways allow guests of the Retreat to access the main lodge should they wish to use any of the facilities or dine in the restaurant.

Matemwe Retreat Zanzibar consists of 4 fantastic villas on a stretch of palm-fringed land with a secluded beach, just north of Matemwe’s main lodge and opposite Mnemba Island. Each of the rooms has a ground level with a total square meter space of 150 m2 (inside plus verandas).

Matemwe Retreat Zanzibar consists of four self-contained, private villas, each with uninterrupted views of the turquoise Indian Ocean. The villas have been designed to cater for those looking for pure escapism and total privacy, as they feature in-house dining and private butler service.

The bedroom is air-conditioned and leads into a bathroom with a shower and a bath overlooking the Indian Ocean. The large verandas offer a cocktail bar and plenty of space for private dining. The top floor features a private sun and shade terrace and a plunge pool (10 m2).

Although guests will find all they need in their room and on the secluded beach, the facilities of Matemwe’s main lodge are accessible for Retreat guests. Dining can be enjoyed in the privacy of the room or in Matemwe’s main lodge.

The chef stops by each day to introduce special Retreat menu suggestions and the fresh catches of the day, the specialty of Matemwe’s acclaimed cuisine. Massages and beauty treatments can be enjoyed in Matemwe’s main lodge.

Matemwe’s friendly staff offers a very personal service to all Retreat visitors whilst maintaining the relaxed atmosphere that Matemwe is known for. Matemwe is located in the north-east of Zanzibar, surrounded by some of the best beaches of Zanzibar and opposite the well-known Mnemba Atoll, a hotspot for scuba diving and snorkeling.

Matemwe’s exclusive location, away from the big hotels, gives the beaches a very private feeling. Fleets of fishermen in traditional wooden dhow sailing boats pass by on their way to and from their fishing grounds.
