Mahali Mzuri Safari Camp Facilities and Activities

The central main tent features a main lounge area with an open fireplace, a library of books, iPads for guest use, iPod docking stations and speaker systems, a games console and a TV/DVD player for those who wish to keep in touch with the news or sport.

The camp has binoculars available for guests and a telescope for stargazing plus our 12 metre outdoor infinity pool, big enough for a leisurely swim or a refreshing dip. There is also a large decked area where breakfast and lunch are usually served and a communal table inside seating 24.

Mahali Mzuri Safari Camp Tents

The Camp has 12 unique tented suites sleeping a maximum of 24 guests at any time. The tents are perched on a ridge looking over the valley with a distinctive design adapted to the local climate and terrain.

There are six tents on either side of the Main Tent, each accessible by a shared walkway, the furthest of which is approximately a 5 minute walk from the Main Tent.

Ten of the 12 tents are designed to sleep two adults and all can be split into twin beds. The remaining two tents are configured so that the sitting area is enclosed with fold-out sofa beds accommodating up to two additional guests.

Mahali Mzuri Safari Camp Dining

You certainly won’t go hungry! From early morning snacks prior to game drives to multiple course menus in the evening the food served at Mahali Mzuri will be one of the highlights of your stay. The camp caters for those with special dietary needs so just let us know in advance and we’ll do our best to have exactly what you need.

At breakfast a continental buffet will be served with hot dishes available à la carte, and guests typically share tables – it’s a great time to chat with your fellow travelers about the wildlife you saw earlier that morning.

Lunch is normally served on the main deck with individual tables and guests can order from the à la carte menu. Dinner could be around a large communal table, out in the bush or somewhere private just for two!

Mahali Mzuri Safari Camp Children

Children aged eight years or older are very welcome to stay at Mahali Mzuri. We have two tents which are able to accommodate additional guests in the separate enclosed sitting room.

Children are able to join their parents on daily game drives, but must be 12 years or older to go on a safari walk. The camp has children's books, games, and kites, plus a TV, DVD player and games console for extra entertainment.

We would be delighted to organize tailored activities to further educate our younger guests on their African surroundings and the local wildlife.

Baby-sitting can be arranged but please advise at the time of booking if this may be required. Special food and beverages or simple snacks and light meals can be prepared according to your child’s tastes.

Mahali Mzuri Safari Camp Spa Treatments

In a more secluded spot just beyond the Main Tent is our spa treatment room offering treatments using the Africology range of products which are wonderfully natural, are made from 100% essential oils and natural plant extracts, and are eco-friendly.

Mahali Mzuri Safari Camp Exclusive Use

You can hire Mahali Mzuri exclusively for anniversary celebrations, birthdays or any type of gathering where you might like the place to yourselves!

Exclusive use of Mahali Mzuri is quoted per night for use of all 12 tents and facilities. Exclusive use rates apply when booking seven or more tents.

Mahali Mzuri Safari Camp best time to visit?

For game viewing the Olare Motorogi Conservancy has abundant wildlife year round, and Kenya’s position straddling the equator means there isn’t a huge amount of variation in temperature throughout the year.

You can expect average highs of about 30°C/ 86°F in the months from December to March with somewhat cooler temperatures from July to September during the height of the migration. Due to its elevation temperatures in the evening do drop to around 15°C/ 59°F however it rarely gets much colder than this.

* There are mini bars in room – everything is included in price

* There’s 41 staff members; only three are expats. The rest are locals
* Rates starting from 590 US Dollars are quoted per person, per night

* In the spirit of conservancy, they don’t use plastic bottles; water is filtered
* Mahali Mzuri Safari Camp Mara is 45 minutes from the commercial airport

* Meals will be at a communal table unless guests want to eat alone or in room

* Tent #3 is closest to the valley floor, tent #7 is highest and closest to the lobby

* Towels are long and soft and they encourage you to use one to conserve water
* Mahali Mzuri Safari Camp Mara is located 20 minutes from a private landing strip

* The ‘do not disturb’ sign is a spear – you stick it in the hole closest to the door for privacy

* You have a choice to keep the curtain ‘flaps’ zipped up at night or keep just the screen setting

* Guests are welcome to grab drinks from the bar fridge anytime, really making you feel at home

* Tent #1 and #12 are the furthest away from the lobby tent, which is smack in the middle of all the tents
* Due to conservancy rules, only 24 guests can sleep at Mahali Mzuri Safari Camp Mara a night. That means that if the two family tents (#7 & 8) have two children each, they can’t sell two of the other rooms
* Electrical outlets are on the ground and not easy to get to, nor do the bulky battery chargers/ universal plugs always fit. Best to bring an extension cord and UK adapter

* Internet is a decent speed and you are able to Skype, which is amazing – especially when you remind yourself you’re in the middle of the African savannah
* You need to be escorted to/ from your room at night by a Masai carrying a spear or bow and arrow. There’s also security with machine guns. They are most worried about lions
* The chef is the GM’s brother. They are both originally from Australia. He used to be Sir Richard’s cook on Necker Island. The two have been camping on the site’s location for about five years.
* Since it’s so close to the equator, things stay relatively the same year round. Sunrise is around 6:30am and sunset is at 7:30pm
* Having lunch outside and watching a herd of elephants walk by down below through the green lush field is exciting
