House
Loldia
House is situated on a private farm of some 6,500 acres
on the shores of Lake Naivasha. Here guests are free
to explore the farm with one of Loldia guides, to enjoy
the interaction of farming activities and the wild animals
which live alongside, and to explore the lakes and mountains
of the Great Rift Valley.
Loldia
House offers a choice of accommodation either in the
old family house or in cottages in the grounds. Loldia
House has a total of 9 rooms; 4 rooms at the House,
1 Cottage with 3 separate rooms and 1 Cottage with 2
separate rooms (18 beds). Loldia main House has four
en-suite double rooms are furnished in the original
colonial style. Close by is an original guest cottage
surrounded by lush flowers, with a further two en-suite
rooms.
A
newly-built cottage on the lakeshore, which is ideal
for honeymooners, has two independent en-suite double
rooms with breathtaking views across the lake to the
extinct volcano, Mount Longonot.
Up
on the hill is the specially built Loldia cottage, which
has its own sitting room with open log fire and panoramic
views across the lake, and three double rooms, making
it ideal for families or groups of friends.
Loldia
Farm was established by a settler who came to Kenya
by ox-wagon after the Boer war and is still owned by
the same family today. He was a renowned horseman who
chose this beautiful corner of Kenya to enjoy all that
was best in the early Kenyan lifestyle.
Nestling
under the acacia and wild fig trees on the green western
shores of Lake Naivasha, the present Loldia House was
constructed by Italian prisoners of war from stone quarried
on the farm. Built around a courtyard, its main archway
frames a stunning view of the dormant volcano Mount
Longonot.
The
house is set in lawns, which are grazed at night by
hippos from the lake. Today's guest can savor the taste
of this early lifestyle in Loldia's uniquely peaceful
setting.
The
farm is ideally situated to visit the flamingo lakes
of Nakuru, Elementaita and Bogoria, one of the great
spectacles of Africa. Lake Nakuru also offers excellent
viewing of the Black Rhino and the more elusive White
Rhino amongst an abundance of other bird and wildlife.
Lake Bogoria is one of the few places where the rare
and beautiful Greater Kudu can be seen.
On
the farm's 6,500 acres, guests may walk or ride through
herds of dairy and beef cattle and a flock of farmed
ostriches, interspersed with impala, waterbuck and other
plains game. Wonderful meals are
served under the trees or in the old, colonial-style
dining-room. Lake Naivasha fish and shrimp are featured
on the menu.

Great
Rift Valley: Boat Trips & Bird watching
Lake
Naivasha, at over 6,000 feet, is the highest lake in
the Rift Valley and one of its most beautiful. Fringed
by papyrus and with the extinct Mount Longonot as a
backdrop, this is a wonderful place to watch and photograph
birds. Over 400 species of birds have been seen in the
Rift Valley, and Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru and Hells
Gate all offer great bird viewing opportunities.
Loldia House has a resident ornithologist and you can
enjoy this wonderful bird life on foot, by boat around
Lake Naivasha, horse riding around the ranch and on
game drives. From boat trips on the lake you can get
close to Cormorants drying their wings, Pink Backed
Pelicans, Herons, colorful Kingfishers and Fish Eagles.
Other
birds seen around the lake include the Goliath Heron,
Jacana, Great White Egret, White Fronted Bee-eater and
the Saddle- billed Stork. Lake Nakuru is surrounded
by Acacia woodland and open grassland, and millions
of Greater and Lesser Flamingoes fringe the lake in
shades of pink.
