Lions Bluff Lodge stands high on a rocky bluff looking towards the North Pare Mountains, Kilimanjaro, the West Usambara Mountains and the Taita Hills.

 

An exclusive eco-lodge, conceived, built and run by the local Taita community, the lodge is situated in the 125,000-acre community-owned Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary which lies at the heart of the Tsavo eco system, surrounded by Tsavo East and West National parks and the Taita Game Sanctuary.

 

Lions Bluff Lodge is 50 kilometers East of Voi on the Taita-Taveta Road; within 125,000 acre of Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary. Nearest airstrip: Taita Hills Strip

 

It is composed of three group ranches (Lualenyi, Mramba and Oza), all of whom have elected to pool their natural resources in the interests of sustaining this unique wilderness area. The area is a vital wildlife corridor for the animals of Tsavo East and west, it is also an ancient elephant migratory route and important breeding sites for lion.

 

Stunning panoramic views over the golden green savannah rolling away to the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, the North and South Pare mountains and the Taita Hills Secluded in Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary amidst peace and quiet, yet easily accessible from Mombasa and Nairobi.

 

Lions Bluff Lodge is simply built from sustainable timber and features a safari bar, viewing terrace and community handicrafts boutique. The central dining room has open sides, allowing for long views across the plains onto Mt Kilimanjaro.

 

An integral part of the surrounding community, the Lodge sources its organic produce from the local farmers, many of whom are shareholders in the conservancy.

 

Secluded and exclusive, Lions Bluff features just twelve traditionally built rondavels, whose wildwood verandahs are suspended over one of Kenya's most stunning panoramas.

 

Overlooking the smoke-grey peaks of the Pare Mountains, and towered over by the legendary mount Kilimanjaro, all the en suite rooms enjoy huge panoramas. Cheetah Campsite

Cheetah campsite is popular with those who want to enjoy the sanctuary without staying in a lodge. Lions Bluff Lodge has built a charming but simple shelter (up to 4 beds with mosquito nets) with its own peaceful atmosphere and veranda with a view. This enables those with no camping gear to use the site.

 

Lions Bluff Lodge has small tents for hire and can provide bedding and kitchen equipment, cooked food or ingredients to make your camp a truly enjoyable experience. Campers are most welcome to use the lodge facilities and activities.

Lions Bluff Lodge has an exclusive campsite, Cheetah and a group campsite. Lions Bluff Lodge welcomes children: extra beds can be provided in the rooms and children's meal times and menus are offered.

 

The lodge adapts well to corporate or conference events and our staff are proficient in all forms of event catering.

 

Below the lodge runs an ancient elephant migratory corridor, which links Lake Jipe in Tsavo West with the Galana River in Tsavo East. Here large matriarchal herds of dust-red elephant lead their offspring to wallow in the lodge's waterhole. Here too, descendants of the famous Tsavo lions breed amongst the rocky bluffs.

Lions Bluff offers one of the most diverse selections of activities. One of the most highly-rated bird areas in the world, it offers unrivalled ornithology. Adjacent to the cloud forests of the Taita Hills, the area offers superb walking and unique biological discovery of its many endemic treasures.

 

There are also 'World War I Battle field' tours, visits to enigmatic lake Jipe and Lake Challa, the unique Grogans Castle, guided nature walks and luxury breakfasts and sundowners in the bush.

 

Immediately adjacent to Tsavo West, the Lodge also serves as a gateway to the Shetani Lava Flows, Mizima Springs Hippo Pools, the Chyulu Hills and the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary of one of the largest national parks in the world.

Lumo Wildlife Sanctuary

Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary lies at the heart of the Tsavo eco system, surrounded by Tsavo East and West including Jipe national parks and the Taita Game Sanctuary. It is composed of three group ranches (Lualenyi, Mramba and Oza), all of whom have elected to pool their natural resources in the interests of sustaining this unique wilderness area.

 

The area is a vital wildlife corridor for the animals of Tsavo East and West, an ancient elephant migratory route and an important breeding site for lions. Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary that is located in the Kenyan coast province, Mwatate division of Taita-Taveta District.

 

It covers an area of 46,600 hectares. The sanctuary is formed by the Lualenyi, Mramba and Oza ranches. The sanctuary tries to follow the Community-based conservation model.

Fauna: lion, leopard, cheetah, serval cat, civet, bat eared fox, buffalo, giraffe, elephant, baboon, waterbuck, Coke's hartebeest, eland, gazelle, zebra, mongoose, hyrax, dik dik, porcupine, and oryx, the unusual aard-wolf, and both striped and spotted hyena


Roads: The roads are well graded, maintained and signposted. Drivable all year with little black cotton

The area is surrounded by the North and South Pares Mountains (70 kilomters distant), Kasigau (50 kilometers) Mount Kilimanjaro (80 kilometers away), the West Usambara Mountains and the Taita Hills.

 

The landscape is composed of rolling savannah and remnants of ancient highland tropical rainforest. The habitat includes the Mwashoti, Mwakitau and Ndola Hills and Lion Rock, all of which are important breeding sites for lion

 

Beautiful birds: Highlights of the birdlife include those of the semi-arid zone, such as ostrich and golden pipit while, perhaps the most conspicuous, are the white-headed buffalo weaver and the brilliantly plumaged golden-breasted starling.

 

Raucous hornbill are also prevalent as are such hole-nesting birds as parrot, barbet and roller
