Lewa
Downs – 3 Days/2 Nights Northern Kenya Road
Safari
The Lewa
Wildlife Conservancy is situated within Lewa Downs,
a 40,000 acre ranch. Home to the Craig family since
1924, it is also home to a diverse array of wildlife
in Kenya's most spectacular scenery. The snow-capped
peaks of Mount Kenya dominate the views to the south,
where the southern boundary rises to an altitude of
some 6500ft above sea level. To the north, the terrain
drops away with breathtaking views of Samburu, Ololokwe
and the Mathews' range beyond.
The Lewa Downs conservancy itself supports a myriad
of plains game species, all perfectly adapted for
the semi desert environment. Grevy's Zebra and the
Reticulated Giraffe are common. The lance-like horned
Beisa Oryx and the rare Greater Kudu are seasonal
visitors. Guenther's Dikdik, the giraffe-necked Gerenuk
and the beautiful blue-legged Somali Ostrich are resident
all year round. The swamp has become a sanctuary in
itself for the rare and fascinating semi-aquatic Sitatunga
Antelope and its primary predator, the Leopard. Bird
life is equally rich with numerous species of Bustard,
Plover, Coursers and birds of prey. At night, Leopard
are frequently encountered along with bush-babies,
Aardvarks, Bat-eared foxes, Caracal and various Mongooses,
Genets and Civets – a few days at Lewa Downs
is a unique combination of hospitality, spectacular
scenery and abundant wildlife.

Itinerary
Day
1
Nairobi – Lewa Downs Conservancy
We
depart by road to a legendary safari setting where
the vast ecosystem plays host to the planet’s
most awesome wildlife spectacle – Lewa Downs.
On arrival we transfer to the Lewa Safari Camp, in
the Lewa Downs Conservancy. The Lewa Safari tented
camp consists of a central cedar wood cottage, housing
the dining room, lounge and bar, while guest accommodation
is in tents on raised platforms and under thatched
roofs. Each tent has electric light, en-suite bathrooms
and large double beds. The camp overlooks a floodlit
waterhole. The afternoon brings a change of ecosystems
as we drive through Kenya’s most protected area
and home to species only found north of the equator,
from the Reticulated Giraffe to Grevy’s zebras
and Beisa Oryxes.
