Lake Manyara National Park 3 Days / 2 Nights Tanzania Safari Detailed Itinerary

Lake Manyara National Park 3 Days/ 2 Nights Safari takes you to the discovery path to Lake Manyara National Park in Arusha Region, Tanzania. The majority of the land area of the park is a narrow strip running between the Gregory Rift wall to the west and Lake Manyara, an alkaline or soda-lake, to the east. It is famous for its population of flamingoes.

 

The Park derives its name from the Masai word "manyara," which is the name for the plant Euphorbia tirucalli. The Masai use this plant to grow livestock stockades. Eventually manyara will produce a stock proof hedge that is more durable than any made of cut thorn branches. There is a specimen of Euphorbia tirucalli at the entrance gate.

 

Despite the fact Lake Manyara National Park is only 330 square kilometers (127 square miles) in area—of which about 230 square kilometers (89 square miles) are lake—it contains a large variety of habitats: the rift wall, the ground water forest, acacia woodland, areas of open grassland, the lake shore, swamp, and the lake itself. Due to the variety of habitats the Park is able to support a large number of species. Over 380 species of birds, some migratory, have been recorded in the Park.

Day 1

Manyara National Park
After breakfast, you will take a drive into the Manyara National Park making a brief stop for a walking tour at Mto Wa Mbu (pronounced OOM-tow-wa-OOM-boo), a village that's now home to people from many different tribes from Tanzania. The area has been turned it into an oasis through Irrigation; it used to be just grazing land for the cattle of the nomadic Masai people. Visit with the locals as you tour the village and also try some of the local banana beer. After the tour continue to the park for a gammed. After lunch at a picnic site we proceed on another game drive before we return to our Lodge on perched on the escarpment.

Day 2

Lake Manyara National Park

The game in this petite park is plentiful and the magnificent bird watching will make a devotee out of even the most reluctant. It is also one of the very few places in Africa to see tree-climbing lions, which we may declare our day’s quest, being so thoroughly sated with the big herds of preceding parks. Manyara’s great shock of pink flamingoes will also delight.

Lake Manyara – Arusha
