/ Trek Overview
Shira Trek starts at
an altitude of 11600ft (3500m), and should only be endeavored
by trekkers who are already acclimatized, or know from
previous trekking or climbing experience that they can
tolerate altitude. From the trail head, the route heads
east across the center of the Shira Plateau, where one
is often likely to spot big game such as elephants and
buffalos. The route then joins up with Machame Trek
at Shira Camp, and approaches the summit via Stella
Point descending via Mweka Camp.

Itinerary

Day
1: Arrival in Tanzania
Upon
arrival at the Kilimanjaro International Airport
(JRO), Arusha Airport (ARK) or Arusha or Moshi
Bus Station, guest will be personally met
by our Moshi office. We will be standing outside
the arrival section holding a signboard with
your name on it. You will be transferred to
Mountain Inn in Moshi for an overnight stay.
In the early evening, you will have pre–climb
briefing on the trek.

Day
2: Moshi – Forest Camp
For the first segment of the
climb, you will drive to Kilimanjaro National
Park Gate at Londorossi, and trek through
the lush forest to reach Forest Camp site
close to the gate at 9000ft/2750m taking four
to five hours.
Overnight will be at Forest
Camp on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day
3: Forest Camp – Shira
Camp
Trekking
continues through the forest on to Shira Plateau
to reach Shira Camp site at 12500ft/3800m
for an overnight camp taking five to six hours.
Overnight will be at Shira Camp on Mount Kilimanjaro.

4: Shira Camp – Barranco Camp site
Heading
towards Kibo, crossing a broad valley and
climbing to a ridge crest, crossing scree
slopes and a river valley to reach Barranco
Camp site 13000ft/3900m for an overnight camp
taking about five to seven hours.
Overnight
will be at Barranco Camp on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day
5: Barranco Camp site – Barafu Camp
Site
Cross the floor of the Great
Barranco Valley, up the Barranco Wall to the
Karanga River - the last water point on this
route. A steep climb over rocky slabs to Barafu
Camp site at 15500ft/4600m for an overnight
camp taking about eight to nine hours.
Overnight will be at Barafu
Camp on Mount Kilimanjaro.

6: Barafu Camp Site – Mweka Camp site
An
early start for the summit (Uhuru
Peak) the highest point in Africa
at 19340ft/5896m taking six to seven hours.
Descend via Barafu Camp site through the forest
to Mweka Camp site at 10000ft/3000m for an
overnight camp taking five to seven hours.
Overnight
will be at Mweka Camp on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day
7: Mweka Camp site –
Moshi
You will descend through the
forest heading to Mount Kilimanjaro Park Gate
at Mweka Wildlife College. The descent will
take three to four hours. You will be met
and transferred to Mountain Inn for your overnight
stay.

Day
8: Moshi – Kilimanjaro – Departure
After breakfast, you will be
transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport
(JRO), Arusha Airport (ARK) or Arusha or Moshi
Bus Station for your departure. We board our
plane knowing that this has been an adventure
to remember for the rest of our lives.
