Kichwa Tembo Camp spacious canvas safari tents offer magical views over the Masai Mara grasslands or the Sabaringo River. The main thatched guest areas include a welcoming bar/sitting area, indoor and outdoor dining areas and a well-stocked gift shop featuring African art, artefacts and safari-wear.

 

The swimming pool is perfect for laid-back game viewing whilst cooling off. Relax in the candlelit bar in the evening before enjoying delicious Pan-African cuisine served alfresco style outdoors or in the main dining area. Twice-daily game-drives
Discover the Masai Mara on interpretive morning and afternoon game-drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles led by experienced CC Africa guides – all of whom have achieved the highest scores in the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association examination.

 

Fascinating Night Game-Drives in Kichwa Tembo’s private concession will reveal a host of interesting nocturnal creatures. (Night game-drives included in the rate at Bateleur Camp; optional extra at Tented Safari Camp).


Interpretive bush walks
Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp bush walks are led by highly skilled guides and traditionally-attired Masai naturalists, wilderness walks along the Mara River and up the Oloololo Escarpment – one of the ‘steps’ of the Great Rift Valley – will bring you face-to-face with wild Africa at its best.

 

(Bush walks included in the rate at Bateleur Camp; optional extra at Tented Safari Camp.) Regretfully, children 16 years and younger cannot participate in bush walks.

 

Kichwa Nature Trail – This trail winds through riverine forest, and follows the perimeter of Sabaringo Creek – fantastic bird life! Max 8 guests per guide; Duration 2 hours. No Charge

 

Mara Hippo Trail – This walk offers an exciting opportunity to explore the wilderness on foot, through the Kichwa Tembo plains, riverine forest, savannah grasslands, bush land and on to the Mara river. Maximum 8 guests per guide; Duration 2 – 2 ½ hours (approximately 10 Kilometers) 30 US Dollars Per Person

 

Oloololo Escarpment Trail – The Oloololo Escarpment trail leads from the camp to the top of the escarpment from where you view the Mara reserve, the Mara river and riverine forest. Maximum 24 guests (8 guests guide); minimum 2 guests. Duration 2 hours (approximately 8 Kilometers ) 30 US Dollars Per Person


Night Game Drive – Night game drive on the Kichwa Tembo concession to observe nocturnal wildlife. Minimum 2 guests. 30 US Dollars Per Person


Bush Breakfast – Enjoyed either on the banks of the Mara River or on the Oloololo Escarpment offering panoramic views of the plains below. Champagne is served on request. Minimum 6 guests. 40 US Dollars Per Person


Masai community visits
Daily lectures by a Masai naturalist and visits to a Masai cultural village offer an incredible insight into the fascinating lives of the brilliantly-clad Masai people.

Masai Village Visit - Guests will be guided through the village by an English-speaking Masai, who lives in the village. He will introduce your guests to the authentic, daily hustle and bustle of Masai living.

 

Guests will also have the opportunity to browse through the Masai Craft Centre and purchase artefacts and souvenirs, which are made in the village — all proceeds are given back to the community. 30 US Dollars Per Person

 

Masai Dance - Guests are met by Masai warriors in traditional dress and entertained with traditional dances. 300 US Dollars Per function


 

Spectacular bush banquets
Early morning bush breakfasts, romantic sundowners featuring spectacular views across the Mara and dramatic candlelit dinners beside the Mara River add an unforgettable dimension to your safari experience.

Access

Air Kenya and Safari Link operates twice daily scheduled flights from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Kichwa Tembo’s private airstrip. The flights are approximately one hour. The lodge collects guests from and returns them to the airstrip – a 30-minute game drive.
